Very true. LSU nor Wade has the basketball pedigree to pull the type of players they have gotten since he got there.
2016-2017: 10-21
2017-2018: 17-14 (18-15 after NIT)
2018-2019: 25-5 tied for first in the SEC
2016 Recruiting class: #51
Top player was ranked #135 our of Baton Rouge.
2 JUCOs
2 other players ranked #222 and #327.
2017 Recruiting Class: #17
Tremont Waters top recruit #44.
2 recruits ranked #135 and #161
1 Unranked recruit
2018 Recruiting class: #4
#18 Nazreon Reid from New Jersey (13.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg)
#26 Emmitt Williams from Florida (7.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg)
#35 Janonte Smart From Baton Rouge (11.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.5 apg)
#62 Darius Days From Florida (5.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg)
#7 Juco- Marlon Taylor From Texas (6.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg)
#16 Juco- Danya Kingsby From Indiana

I mean, it could be a possible that a bunch of players from a bunch of different places just randomly decided to make LSU a basketball powerhouse. Since he was caught with Smart it makes the whole recruiting class flaky and it more than likely is. He's a good coach, but he got caught and will pay for it.
This may be true...
But if I remember correctly Johnny Jones was pulling in some decent classes as well.
"LSU’s decision was summed up by one prominent Division I athletic director this way: 'They can only look away for so long.'
There wasn’t some deep-rooted sense of disbelief or outrage from the wiretap revelations in the coaching ranks either.
'I don’t think people are surprised, I don’t think coaches are surprised,” a prominent Division I coach familiar with Wade said. “That’s his reputation.'”

Should the players also bare the brunt of things? You cannot bribe an honest man. Odds are these players knew it was wrong and in some cases as we have seen shopped themselves around for the best deal.
Should the funds be taxable and should they be investigated by the IRS for not reporting the money?
Give 10-year show cause for the coach, then suspension from college and 2 years NBA ban for players.
RE: LSU just suspended Will Wade ... Indefinitely !!!
The Rice Commission recommended much more severe penalties for caught cheaters.
The IRS question is valid, but the ones receiving the money are usually poor athletes, often with single moms. The IRS doesn't want that kind of publicity.
NBA is not going to ban anyone for taking money in college. The NBA has basically decided to give up on depending on the NCAA to confront and clean up the corruption. One-and-done will end soon. They are funneling the top HS players in each class to USA Basketball academies already, with their parents, to meet with agents and start getting financial advice.

Ummmm...What did the players do to the NBA? Did they break any NBA rules?
Then why in the world would the NBA ban them...Silly statement.

corruption.
If players are free to just walk away from college ball after committing illegal acts and go to the NBA then there is no punishment for their actions.
Or we can follow the most recent precedent and sentence them to 47 months in prison for tax evasion.
RE: LSU just suspended Will Wade ... Indefinitely !!!
In other quotes Wade said someone was getting more than the NBA minimum. I wonder if that means the $77K for two way players or if he means more than than $582K? http://www.basketballinsiders.com/nba-sa...um-salary/

If anything they should be suspended at the college level. A lot of players had to do that last year because of this. Everything from 1 game to 1 1/2 seasons. If they are good enough they could just go pro after this year if that was going to be the case for them.
Also Mac regarding your other post to mine.
They pulled in Blakeney (#16), Sampson (#56) and Ben Simmons (#1) in 2015. That was under Johnny Jones. They also were pretty avg then and missed the NCAA Tournament with them. Simmons to LSU made sense because David Patrick was an assistant there. (His god father). He committed in Oct 2013. Blakeney probably went because Simmons went. Sampson is from Baton Rouge. It all lined up and there was nothing to really be used against them.
This is 100% completely different. Will Wade also probably got Waters some great compensation. In his statement in the transcripts he referred to a player of Smart's Caliber in the past who was easier to deal with. The only player he has ever recruited in that general ranking is Waters.
We all know this goes on all the time, but he made the mistake. I guess from this point forward all coaches will request face to face meetings in secret places and make sure they check for a wire.
