Big jump in Marshall's Carnegie Classification.

Marshall was previously classified as a M1: Master’s Colleges and Universities – Larger Programs, but with the university’s increased research productivity and a move by the Carnegie program to include additional doctorates in its methodology, Marshall’s designation improved.

Marshall now joins several other CUSA members in this classification.

The sad part is we could have achieved this 15-20 years ago if we would have had the WV State Legislature behind us. Charleston has fought any growth at Marshall tooth and nail for years now.

We feel your pain, Thundering Herd. Congratulations on the R-2 academic achievement. Living in the political shadow of those %$#*Mountaineers is as disturbing as MT being in the shadow of the &%#@ Volunteers. In the words of MLK, "We Shall Overcome!"

^ At yesterday's BOT meeting, the Memphis Pres. said that they introduced a coordinated initiative at the state level around Carnegie classifications last year, but it failed in the Legislature. So, they are having to move forward on their own. TX and FL have done well in this area.
