Memphis at No. 23 Cincinnati

Is this an unlikely game for the Weekend Preview? No doubt. But Memphis has played its way onto the bubble by winning five of its last six games, and a win at Cincinnati on Saturday would give the Tigers their first Q1 win, as well as a top-40 NET rating. That wouldn’t be good enough to get them in just yet, but would have them in position to break into the field with a couple more strong wins in the AAC tournament. That’s all well and good in theory, but they have to beat the Bearcats for any of it to matter. They nearly did so the first time they played, losing by five at home after holding an 11-point lead in the second half. Memphis ranks fourth in the country in kenpom’s adjusted tempo while Cincinnati ranks 345th, so this really is a clash of diametrically opposed styles of play. Memphis will have to find a way to balance pushing the pace while not getting beat up on its defensive glass in this one. The Bearcats rank seventh in the country in offensive-rebounding rate and cleaned up 36% of their own misses in their previous win over the Tigers.

If we can beat Cincy at Cincy then we can beat Houston at home.

I agree with this but this is gonna be hard. Seems like we play these guys on their senior night alot. If we can beat them tonight we can beat Houston at home.

Memphis already has a Q1 win over UCF.

I agree with this but this is gonna be hard. Seems like we play these guys on their senior night alot. If we can beat them tonight we can beat Houston at home.

If we win tonight we will be in if we make the finals. Broadly speaking. The bubble could shrink with upsets in other conference tournaments but I think it would get us in .

Well, win tonight AND next Saturday and make the finals is probably closer to the truth. A loss to Tulsa at home might negate the Cincy win.

We'll have to play our best game of the year, by far. It will take all JM has, along with better than average help from at least two others. No one can have an "off day".

I wouldn’t automatically assume we lose to Houston. If we make it to the championship game, I’d say we will win.

Here’s something to consider and think about....

Houston currently has a 12 game winning streak. If they win out they will enter the tournament on a 15 game winning streak. In order to accomplish this they will have to beat Cincinnati at Cincinnati the last game of the season. Tough task. I hope they win out, because Houston will not win 18 straight games in a row. They are very good, but not that good.

I tend to agree. Except we win Cincy and Tulsa, we have a good shot at the #4 seed.

We win one of either @Cincy, or semis vs Houston, and we're squarely on the bubble as long as the other loss is a close game.

Win both, then lose in the CCG and we should be in.

True but I knew they weren’t winning 18 in a row. And clearly they can be beat.
