Seems good

Don't forget we both hail from Commonwealths (although with VCU around, I can understand if you guys pretend you are just a state).

Just to clean things up a bit, we even cut off the Hillbilly part of the state and gave it to the Yankees about 150+ years ago. Marshall calls that area home today. 02-13-banana

To be fair, they cut themselves off. I ruined the joke but the history person in me had to say something. Lol

There are no locks save ODU in the NIT.

No locks at all. I think there's a pretty good chance ODU won't be playing in the NIT.

01-ncaabbs01-ncaabbs01-ncaabbs Yep. I should've clarified "at least" NIT.

Let’s have a ODU vs WKU title rematch 04-chairshot ODU won’t have 8000 home court fans to pull you through in a 3rd game.

I thought I read somewhere by some WKU fan that WKU's basketball team plays better in hostile environments

One thing is 100% for sure ODU will not have a decent crowd....

ODU cheerleaders, band, parents/family (25 or so), AD department and maybe 20 paying fans...for a basketball school ODU does not travel very well. Yes, I understand ...its a long trip but I would expect 8 to 10% of a core fan base...400+. Damn I forgot the dance team, at least I try to.

Tight whistle at any point in the tourney and ODU is NIT bound. That's not sour grapes, or wishful thinking, I just think a tightly called game against a good ft shooting team....takes ODU out.

I know I won't go to Frisco ever. I don't want to reward this league for making bad decisions. Split the damn thing up into two cities and let the men's and women's tournaments alternate between the east and west each year, so each division get the men or women each year.

I have proposed a workable solution before. Judy, are you listening?

Split the conference into East and West just like in football, only keep the scheduling and pod play the way it is now. Have the top Eastern and Western teams host the tournament at their sites, and have the East and West Champs play at the highest remaining seed. This will:

1.) Reward the regular season champ with a distinct advantage.
2.) Cut down on travel costs.
3.) Increase fan involvement (and revenue).

(and I proposed this last year, before ODU got the #1 seed this year).

So if the season ended today, ODU would host WKU, FUI, Marshall, FAU, MTSU, and Charlotte. UTSA would host USM, UAB, UNT, LT, Rice, and UTEP. (If you want to let Charlotte and UTEP stay home, that would be OK). Then the two winners would meet at the highest seed for the automatic NCAA birth.

Sour grapes is making fun of a dance team, again. Lol.

And you are right, I will not go. Same reason as Drunkard. I am not going to support something that I don't agree with.

Lastly, I guess I shouldn't expect a WKU fan to understand that if there's a tight whistle, the team will adjust... since you guys have a coach who doesn't understand in-game adjustments at all. A tight whistle is fine by us, we have a deeper bench to tap into.

RE: CUSA Bracket (as of 3/4)
Here's the thing, honestly, ODU fans were spoiled for a long time in the CAA. We could get to a tournament, against our rivals, in 90 minutes. We easily took 3,000-4,000 fans to those games. The other underrated aspect of the CAA Tournament was that it was over a weekend and ended the week before the Big Dance. If you went, at most, you had to take two days off (Friday and Monday) and then if your team won, you'd have the rest of week to start planning for more time off for the Dance.

Now CUSA is asking us to fly halfway across the country to play teams we barely care about, during the middle of the week, and then, if our team wins, turn around the next week and travel again for the NCAA Tournament. Yeah, I understand why few Monarchs are making the trip to Frisco.

Friday was the pillow fight. We never had to play on Friday. I never took Monday off either. Just leave an hour early any plenty of time to get up 64 and have a few beers before the 7PM tip. Definitely miss that.

High Five - I'm also a history buff. Yes, they (Virginians) living in the northwest corner of the state cut themselves off to join the Yankees and in so doing become a separate state. They didn't achieve official statehood till a year or two after they split.

I think we are both saying the same thing, just in different ways, and I understand where you are coming from. Everybody involved at the time of the split was a resident of Virginia no matter which side of the dividing line they ended up on after the split occurred. That's why my original statement was, "we (Virginians) cut the Hillbilly part of the state off and gave it to the Yankees ...". Meanwhile the majority of the Virginians remained behind in the south in what is today Virginia.

Don't ask me about when Virginia used to - I believe - stretch clean out to the Mississippi River. Not sure about how those land areas became named parts or all of several other different states. 04-cheers

I agree with what the other ODU fans have stated about going to Frisco. We have by far the longest distance to travel. Charlotte can get direct (and probably cheaper) flights via American I would guess. It is much too far to drive comfortably. The conference should come up with a better solution for their Tournament games. For example - I'd go if it was in Biloxi. At least there would be other entertainment that I could indulge in if my team was eliminated before my flight was due to leave days later. Or I would be willing to drive there since it is just over 900 miles from my house. I have driven there probably at least 6-8 times over the last 3 decades.

FWIW there’s two nonstop flights per day on ORF-DFW.

Another small data point about the C-USA tournament...

I work for a large, Fortune 50 company that has several thousand employees in Plano and we even have a small office at The Star... We’re very in touch with sports and sponsor lots of sporting events, stadiums, etc...

Anyhow, I reached out to someone today in our sports marketing department to see if they had any free tickets for the tournament... They said, no, we haven’t received any complimentary tickets from C-USA.

Of course, I’ll still go to the games to support Rice but it’s disturbing that C-USA isn’t tapping into local corporate partners to help increase attendance. It’s theoretically one of the advantages that a Frisco location would have over others..
