I thought I read somewhere by some WKU fan that WKU's basketball team plays better in hostile environments
We have actually played better in games where there was decent crowds,
One thing is 100% for sure ODU will not have a decent crowd....
ODU cheerleaders, band, parents/family (25 or so), AD department and maybe 20 paying fans...for a basketball school ODU does not travel very well. Yes, I understand ...its a long trip but I would expect 8 to 10% of a core fan base...400+. Damn I forgot the dance team, at least I try to.
Tight whistle at any point in the tourney and ODU is NIT bound. That's not sour grapes, or wishful thinking, I just think a tightly called game against a good ft shooting team....takes ODU out.
I know I won't go to Frisco ever. I don't want to reward this league for making bad decisions. Split the damn thing up into two cities and let the men's and women's tournaments alternate between the east and west each year, so each division get the men or women each year.
I have proposed a workable solution before. Judy, are you listening?
Split the conference into East and West just like in football, only keep the scheduling and pod play the way it is now. Have the top Eastern and Western teams host the tournament at their sites, and have the East and West Champs play at the highest remaining seed. This will:
1.) Reward the regular season champ with a distinct advantage.
2.) Cut down on travel costs.
3.) Increase fan involvement (and revenue).
(and I proposed this last year, before ODU got the #1 seed this year).
So if the season ended today, ODU would host WKU, FUI, Marshall, FAU, MTSU, and Charlotte. UTSA would host USM, UAB, UNT, LT, Rice, and UTEP. (If you want to let Charlotte and UTEP stay home, that would be OK). Then the two winners would meet at the highest seed for the automatic NCAA birth.
