There are very few fans of the real college game that wouldn't agree. It kills what would be otherwise fantastic atmospheres.
Imagine putting today's crowd in ANY other AAC gym, where the fans wouldn't be a mile from the court and every other seat wouldn't be empty. That'd be a top tier college basketball atmosphere.
I'm sure FedEx is great for all your amenities and comforts. For creating a real college hoops atmosphere, it doesn't do the job and never will. It's a shame because that's such a fantastic crowd, perpetually muted by a cavernous building.
Have you ever been to an NBA Playoff game? That's what the FedEx Forum atmosphere feels like during sellout games for the Tigers, which is easy to do when we are a Top 25 team. 18,000+ screaming fans is a sight to behold.
Man, its a Temple fan talking about atmosphere. Temple games are funerals without the body.
We like it quiet when we are winning.
I dont really mean to demean the Temple fanbase. Yall are mostly nice. That one guy is just an ass though.
Lol, what is the problem with you Memphis fans? I was giving you guys credit for a great crowd, and you take the fact that your building has a negative effect on the atmosphere personally. Did you guys collectively design the place? Jesus.
I go to anywhere between 7-15 different gyms a year to watch games, often not including Temple. I've seen games in NBA arenas, gyms that seat 1,500, and everything in between. The atmospheres at the big arenas pale to just about everything else in comparison. Nova in Philly, John's at the Garden, Providence, they're all nothing compared to games at the Finn, Carnesecca. Every other seat was empty on Tuesday, and again, that's not a knock on the crowd, it's on the building. Put that crowd in 5/3rd or Fertitta or LC and it would be PHENOMENAL. At FedEx it's minor league.
That doesn't have to be a concern of yours. It's not an indictment on the fans or program. You can like it that way. Atmospheres is one of the big things i enjoy about the college game, so I'm disappointed when I see a great crowd muted.
And if we're playing ifs and buts and way-back-whens like someone wanted to do with the "well when we're good" comment, Liacouras Center used to be rocking every game until about midway through the 16-17 season. And if the online community is any reflection of the fan base at large, the building will be filling up quickly with Fran leaving. Come on up for our game against Nova to hear what 10,000 fans should sound like.
