Exclamation Orlando Sentinel: UCF Lands Highest Ranked AAC 2019 Recruiting Class
UCF 2019 Recruiting Class

2019 Rivals Rankings

UCF coach Josh Heupel wrapped up the highest-rated class in the American Athletic Conference, landing another recruit from Hawaii among the final wave of signees.

Read more about the class:

IMPACT PLAYERS:
Tre’Mon Morris-Brash, DE, St. John’s College HS (Washington, DC): Morris-Brash made a big splash in January when he announced his commitment to UCF on national television at the Under Armour All-American Game here in Orlando. He has the length and the speed to provide the Knights with an impressive pass rusher to build on for the future.

Keenan Hester, DT, St. Petersburg: Hester is among a trio of top defensive linemen the Knights were able to secure in this recruiting class. The 6-foot-3 tackle signed with the school in December, spurning offers from Boston College, Cincinnati and Georgia in the process. He wrapped up his senior year with 56 tackles and 9.0 sacks.

Dallaz Corbitt, DE, Gray Academy (S.C.): At 6-foot-7, Corbitt is the tallest of the prospects signed by UCF in this class. He is also another key piece of the puzzle for the Knights on the defensive line. He signed with the program in December after excelling both at basketball and football, where he most recently led his team with seven sacks during the regular season.

Damarius Good, ATH, Lake Brantley: Good signed with the Knights in December after originally committing to Miami. A two-way star at Lake Brantley, Good amassed more than 1,200 all-purpose yards as a running back and kick returner his senior season.

Dillon Gabriel, QB, Mililani (Hawaii): Gabriel could have chosen to play closer to home, but he instead signed with UCF in December. He enrolled in January, joining fellow Mililani alum McKenzie Milton on the roster.

Rest of the class:
SIGNED IN DECEMBER:

DE Raymond Cutts, Jones

CB Jarrad Baker, Eau Gallie

CB Justin Menard, Eagles Landing Christian Academy (Ga.)

DE Jalen Pinkney, Hutchinson C.C. (Kan.)

LB Tatum Bethune, Miami Central

CB Tay Gowan, Butler C.C. (Kan.)

WR Amari Johnson, Miami Carol City

DE Kam’ron Green, Southeast

LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste, South Dade

DT Noah Hancock, ASA College (Miami)

OG Allan Adams, University Christian

CB Ryan O’Keefe, Round Rock (Texas)

OT Matt Lee, Hagerty

SIGNED WEDNESDAY:

K Daniel Obarski, Hamilton (Ariz.)

ATH James Tarver, Raines

OL Lokahi Pauole, Kamehameha (Hawaii)

DE Tre’Mon Morris-Brash, St. John’s College HS (Washington, DC)

GRADUATE TRANSFERS:

QB Brandon Wimbush, Notre Dame

DB Jordan Hayes, Grayson (Ga.), Duke

Assessment:
The Knights finished with their best overall recruiting class since 2010 with the group receiving 179.64 points and a No. 55 ranking from 247Sports.com. The Knights had the No. 1 class in the American Athletic Conference. The early signing period left UCF with little fanfare on National Signing Day after 18 of the 22 players in the class signed in December, with five of those players already having enrolled in school. Tre’Mon Morris-Brash, a three-star defensive end from Washington D.C., was among the Knights’ final recruits who signed on Wednesday. UCF added much-needed depth and talent on both the offensive and defensive lines.

Big catch:
Defensive line was a major concern with the departures of Joey Connors, Titus Davis, A.J. Wooten, Aaron Cochran and Trysten Hill. But Heupel and his staff were able to provide some much-needed depth and athleticism by signing Keenan Hester, Dallaz Corbitt and Morris-Brash.

Got away:
The Knights entered the day with 23 commitments but lost one in Deonte Stanley, a three-star two-way player from South Carolina who had offers from East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Liberty before choosing instead to commit to Hutchinson C.C.

Quote of note:
“We lost a bunch of really good football players on the defensive line and having to replace those guys was a high priority for us in this recruiting class. I’m proud of what our entire staff did; [defensive line] coach [Shane] Burnham going out and getting some really good players that I think will help us next fall and help us long-term there at that position as well.”

UCF coach Josh Heupel on reaction to class

Perhaps we should leave the jokes to someone whose team is relevant.

Didn’t need the 4+* to get here. Probably don’t need it to stay here.

UCF only trails Boise St in 247 Sports recruiting class ranking for schools outside the "P-5". Memphis is second in the AAC and fourth overall.

6 schools, half the conference, have a recruiting rating averaging at least 83.

If you rank everyone by rating, UCONN (81.00) goes from 126 to 98. That's also our highest rating since 2013.

Progress?

On a per recruit basis, six schools recruited well:

Houston, Memphis and SMU in the west.
UCF, USF and Cincy in the east.

There was a big drop off to the bottom six, although Navy is hard to grade.

The difference between UCF and USF is greater than the difference between USF and ECU...

Yes, good players attract good players. This next year still looks tough. But the year after should be much better (bowl contention). Youth will kill you on defense because the offense already has advantages and bad reads, bad discipline will lead to issues. More experience will give you less of those. Your offense has shown some sparks and getting a top notch qb at any point will pull talent to your offensive side so that can turn around quick. So each class that goes up will become the step to a better class next year.

Tulsa is now on its fourth just wait and see qb since Dane Evan's left. Monty wants to be an OC not a head coach. Unfortunately most of his offensive recruits have been busts or digressed under him. Our defensive staff with less resources and emphasis has found more than a few diamonds that needed polishing. Sadly on a normal Tulsa team this basically average defense would usually lead to a lot of wins, instead they watch a poor offense struggle with basic things and tight games slip from their grasp. So we are regressing. Luckily we don't play you for a couple years so the difference shouldn't be too glaringly obvious.

Not sure which site your referencing, but I prefer 247 which uses a composite score for their final rankings. Their rankings were

UCF
Memphis
SMU
UC
ECU
USF
UH
Tulane

Not sure about the drop off

Looks like everyone got 95%+ 3 star recruits. No 4 or 5 stars. Should come down to coaching, desire and heart.

Yeah if you believe the Scout composite ratings it looks like those six have the best classes. Not sure if there is such a big drop-off the - just my opinion. And Navy always seems to overcome their recruiting. 03-wink

How many 4+ star recruits wind up transferring from big schools because the competition is better and/or work harder and/or cause less trouble than they do?

The difference between 3 star and 4-5 star recruits many times is physical and mental maturity. Plus 4-5 star recruits are marketed more heavily by their agents. There is a lot of bs going on and future $$$.
