Mustang fans,

Just wanted to say "welcome aboard" to all of the SMU faithful for a great ride startiing in 05. Even though it takes time to develop new rivalries, the competition in this conference is sure to make for alot of excitment. No disrespt to your former conf., but it seems to me that more of a southern flavor should appeal to your fans; not to mention all of the other advantages.
As a Southern Miss fan, we already have something in common with SMU. During our telivised football games over the years, It never fails that one of the anouncers mistakenly refers to us as SMU. All kidding aside, we do have a few things in common. Back in your Football Glory days, we had a pretty good coach (ie Bobby Collins) who left Hattiesburg for greener pastures and took our current coach (ie Jeff Bower) with him to SMU.
I am familiar with the Dallas area being a sales rep for National Chemsearch based in Irving and I look forward to visiting the SMU campus when the EAGLES come for our first formal introduction in the near future. Good luck Mustangs as you finish up in the WAC this year and look forward to seeing you in CUSA 05! 04-rock

Thanks, 2005 can't get here soon enough for us for two reasons. One is to be part of a great conference with strong regional rivalries and, second, our FB team is young but getting bigger and faster with recent recruiting classes. Many feel that we will make solid progress this year but 2005 will be fun because these youngsters will be battle tested and ready to go for all the marbles.

See ya soon,

04-cheers

Memphis - We'll do our best. Most are looking at 2-4 wins this year realistically as 6 of our 11 games next year are against bowl teams from last year.

Playing 3 inexperienced QB's last year killed our chances for scoring points in a league where you HAVE to score to win in the WAC. On a positive note, we did have the 2nd ranked defense in the WAC last season.

Just make sure that Memphis has their 'buckets' on tight by the time we get to C-USA. 2005 will be Coach Bennett's first year to have seniors on his squad that were his recruits. He has been improving the athletisim and skill of our players through recruiting since he arrived on the Hilltop. However with our admissions standards (most players can't transfer their full 60 hours of JC hours (ie. Phys Ed classes). We're unable to go for the 'quick fix' and competively recruit JUCO's unlike 95% of D-1 schools. I'm not saying this is an excuse, rather a impediment to a one-two year turnaround for those that say Bennett should be winning by now as compared to other universities that 're-load' every year.
