Well that and the new top guy in Brazil is a rightie. The question is how far right? Some say Juan Peron right. Some say not. The jury is out. Look him up. Google calls him a racist, sexist, homophobe. I'd say that's quite an endorsement from the tech giant! (Jair Bolsonaro)

My question is why the hell should we not build a wall with Mexico siding with the Russians and Chicoms! Piss on that!

The dictators (plus Mexico who is very against "interference" and tends to do the opposite of the US on any of these issues) are behind Maduro. The Democracies in the continent for the Congress. Its notable that even Ecuador and Peru have come out against Maduro.

There are more commie insurgents in Guadalajara than you can stir with Napalm. Mexico isn't just disagreeing to disagree. Between a growing communist movement that Cuba has been funding for years and the drug lords there's reason enough to build the damned wall!

I’m surprised that the Turkish and Russian recognition has not drawn an extremely strong rebuke from us.

That’s not really being reported but that’s a seriously profound shift in our approach.

Turkey has been leaning that way for a little while. I don't think their endorsement for status quo in Venezuela is going to surprise many at the Pentagon. But I do think it's going to be a shock to the public. The same thing happened when the Shaw was about to be deposed in Iran. We knew what was coming down, just weren't sure exactly when or how. But when the Shaw's people started applying for asylum the gig was up. The public was the last to know there as well. It's one of those prepare for the worst and hope it doesn't happen situations.

Russia has wanted a warm water port forever. Turkey is ideal. The trick now will be how much the Turks want from us and how much largess they will allow Russia to have before they can't milk us for anything. Russia isn't in yet, and we aren't completely out. We'll see.

An example of lies by omission. You have to really read closely to understand all the countries they mention supporting Maduro are the exception. You would think the US was alone.

Stopped watch is right twice a day.

It is very helpful that it wasn't just Trump and Bolsonaro, but also Canada, Panama, Chile, and the OAS.

It's why Trump got elected in the first place. They'll never learn.

By the way, AMLO said that Mexico is recognizing Maduro "for now". That's hardly a ringing endorsement of Maduro.

Erdogan knows the EU membership is a pipe dream at this point and is instead seeking membership in an expanded BRICS. Doing anything that makes Russia mad will scuttle that quicker than anything, and supporting Maduro is a low risk affair for them. Not to mention Turkey has been expanding their trade with Venezuela and Maduro recently invited Turkish industries to begin mining for gold and diamonds in the Arco del Orinoco. The Turks not only stand to be isolated from another trade group but to lose out on significant wealth if they do not back the status quo in Venezuela.

Yeah, there are no easy answers here for U.S. Policy. We can't just cut them loose to be a Putin ally, and they can't really afford to cast their lot solely with the BRICS. And right now I wouldn't say Venezuela was a hot business prospect. It's more they just don't want to alienate Russia. I can't see the Turks working well with China, or China with them. But I can understand why they might think their bread is better buttered by Putin.
