CUSA Basketball Standings
Lets hope the cream rises to the top as the season moves along. Currently
UTSA 04-jawdrop 4-0 (beat UTEP twice, Rice, and NT)
Marshall 3-0
NT 4-1
La Tech 3-2
ODU, FIU, FAU, UAB 2-2

Interesting that some unlikely teams are currently at the top of the conference in the early part of the season.

RE: CUSA Basketball Standings
I only posted the top 5 because that is really the only group that matters. It will be interesting to see how it changes week to week.

RE: CUSA Basketball Standings
For some reason I can't see UTSA or NT staying in the top 5. Will ODU, UAB, La Tech, or WKU rise to the occasion over the next 2 weeks ? Huge game against La. Tech and So. Miss coming up at home !! To me this coming week is separation week. Need FAU to lose to Marshall and WKU. They have the head to head against us.

RE: CUSA Basketball Standings
Wouldn't FAU be the #5 right now due to head-to-head tiebreakers?

The @Char @UTEP @UTSA road swing has become super important in my opinion. All three of these teams are playing super gritty right now, and if we have an off night can easily be a loss. These games right here might be the difference between being in Pod 1 and being in Pod 2.

Crazy to think without a huge comeback and a last second shot we could be 0-4 in conference play. That would have been bad

For sure but it is always a sign of a good solid team to comeback and win.

Well yeah. But we are also a slow start and a last second 3 away from a potential 4-0 start.

RE: CUSA Basketball Standings
ODU
NT
Marshall
UAB
UTSA

Almost 2 weeks later ODU moves from 5 to 1. Same general top 5 and anyone from La Tech @ 4-4 can finish in the top 5. Next 2 weeks should be fun.

CUSA Basketball Standings
Biggest surprise to me so far is WKU and to a lesser extent USM. Thought WKU talent would carry them harder than what they've shown. Their talent could still be enough to get serious for the CUSAT in time to win 3-4 games in a row and should never be counted out.

USM has a pair of senior guards and a capable big man but it hasn't translated for some reason.

WKU has certainly used the last week and half to move up. Anyone would have to think they are going to finish in the top 5 with the talent they have. Bassey is certainly showing why he was rated so highly. Beating UTSA tomorrow would be a HUGE benefit to us in a tie breaker and down the stretch.

I think losing Nelson for the year hurts us defensively and takes some time to adjust, we lost him 5-7 games ago. We are also just getting or senior guard Bearden back into the lineup and that’s starting make things click. I think Bassey minis the turn overs is turning into a monster pulling 15-17 rebounds a games lately........... (edit) I just realized I was on your guys personal board and apologize for posting here, I was not paying attention while browsing

All good ! this is valuable insight. I also think WKU will be in the Top 4 or 5 and has one of the best teams in the conference. WKU will be a tough out in the CUSA tournament.

Insightful commentary from other fanbases is most definitely welcome here

RE: CUSA Basketball Standings
Thanks guys, I usually don’t make habits of posting of someone else’s board and just forgot I was on the ODU board lol. I think our youth has also been a huge part of our issues, we have one senior and he just recently joined the lineup. Two of our starters are supposed to be playing their senior year of high school right now, Bassey (center) and Banton (6’8 point guard) both reclassified to join WKU a year early. Every team has issues such as injuries and such..... we just need find a way to get through ours . Right now we have

Josh Anderson ( broke nose against USM)
Merick Nelson ( back injury) now out for season
Matt Horton Missed around 10 games because of injuries and is was behind
Gambrel missed fall practice and the first half of the season (broke foot)
Murray Our Auburn transfer decided to leave after first semester
Bearden our Sr guard became eligible 2nd semester then went into Stansburys doghouse and has just started playing any mins ( probably the most important player on this team) SENIOR!

That’s 6 players that has really disrupted the flow of our season for sure, really hoping things are smoother from here on.
