Best Sun Belt HC Hire?
So I did this poll a month ago with just Spav and Drink thinking we were done. Finished with an exact 50/50 split.

Who does everyone think is the best HC hire of this cycle now that Lindsey is added?

Might want to wait a little bit to see the staff that each builds at their new school.

Still too early. Got more crooting to do, and most staffs (staves? something doesn't feel right about either spelling) haven't been filled.

You know, that's really a good point. The HC could be a solid pick, but if all his staff sucks or is below average, he will almost assuredly struggle.

Perhaps a better poll might be: Best Sun Belt Coaching staff hire.

RE: Best Sun Belt HC Hire?
Kind of an unknown season coming up. Coaching changes at 3 of the top teams will do that.I No one can predict how the Troy and App first time coaches will do. No one knows how much the new OC and OL coach will help us get into the endzone. It's a crap shoot as to how much Texas State will improve. The conference is improving and losing the two best Head coaches is the price.

I remember one of these back when Hud, Freeze, and McCarney @ UNT were hired . . . popular opinion at the time didn't work out on that poll. Two were fired and one was hired away by SEC. Generally, everyone thinks their new coach is great cause for optimism . . . until they don't.

RE: Best Sun Belt HC Hire?
I will be interested to see if Spavital can increase offensive efficiency while maintaining the defense. I was under the impression that Texas State was a respectable, not even good, offense away from winning at least six games. There were moments where the QB would flash and then they would pull one in favor of the other who subsequently killed any momentum. The play calling was baffling at times as well. Then the defense comes out and looks like the real deal. I could see a Georgia Southern like turnaround this season and a West division championship should the offense be a few notches better.

In inspecting Chip Lindsey's coaching record, it's apparent that gaudy QB numbers follow wherever he goes. The question will be defense. How does Troy move on from one of the best defensive coaches in their programs recent history? Will we be watching a Big XII style team or a Big Ten style team we have been used to watching? Does Sawyer Smith finish in the Top 10 for Heisman Trophy votes after throwing for 4,500 yards and passing for 40 TD's?

For Drink and Co. I'm not sure what to expect. There isn't a huge change other than a philosophy shift from a running back centric offense to a QB centric offense. The parts are all in place for immediate success on both sides of the ball as the defense will remain in the 3-4 look. Will App become more explosive on offense and not let up in the 3rd quarter with a 10 point lead? Or will they make Louisiana look like they have the 3rd best defense in the league again?

Side Note: Satterfield hired Ledford who was a Co-Offensive Coordinator with Drink at NC State. Apparently App and Louisville will be running the same offense.

App is going back to the Pro-style pocket QB days pre-2004.

App's have been asking for a package under center for 15 years now. I think they will get their wish this season.

I would love to give you my obligatory "Vic Koenning's favorite meal is a pocket passer" statement, but alas, I can't. #sadness

Chadwell is extremely underrated in my opinion.
