Tulsa Men's Soccer Team Ranked No. 17 in Preseason Top-30 National Poll
Golden Hurricane is One of Three MVC Teams to Garner a Preseason Ranking
Aug. 3, 2004
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's soccer team will enter the 2004 campaign as one the nation's top teams as the Golden Hurricane is ranked No. 17 in the CollegeSoccerNews.com Preseason Top-30 National Poll.
Tulsa returns 17 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year's squad that finished 13-6-2 and advanced to the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. TU was ranked for 11 straight weeks last season, including as high as No. 10, which established a new school record for the highest ranking.
The Hurricane joins SMU (#7) and Creighton (#27) as the only three teams from the Missouri Valley Conference to receive a top-30 ranking.
"It's nice to be recognized as a top-30 team," said 10th-year Head Coach Tom McIntosh. "One of our goals is to have the reputation as a program that is annually recognized among the top-30 teams in the nation not only during the preseason, but during the regular season as well. We know that a preseason ranking does not have an impact on the regular season, but it is good recognition for our players and program."
TU will open exhibition play with two matches on Saturday, August 21 at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium. Tulsa will scrimmage Northeastern (Okla.) State at 10:00 a.m., and will face the University of Central Arkansas at 5:00 p.m.
