RE: Where is everyone going?
The schools that carry this league are looking for a way to get paid more money. The rest of y'all can either 1.) get on board or 2.) give the MountainSunUSA a call.

Give a listen to C. Austin Cox from yesterday on The AAC Daily. The guy covered the Big XII forever and adds some much needed context. Food for thought at least.

I don't know what he said but I do recall this guy. He said Memphis was a lock to the Big 12 last time. He claimed to have sources. A Sports Talk Radio Show here in Memphis even put him on the air.

No one had any real knowledge of how the Big XII was going to handle things once ESPN got in the middle of that situation. Who knows, maybe Memphis was a lock before that.

He does provide a different perspective on the OU, Texas, Kansas situation that’s not been discussed anywhere else that I’ve seen. Certainly more plausible than anything being thrown around by the new kids on the block on this forum.

He also threw out some numbers, $12-14 mil before tier 3 rights maybe? I was falling asleep while listening so I could be wrong on the tier 3 thing.

RE: Where is everyone going?
That B12 expansion charade was nothing more than a shakedown of ESPN. Even though we were the hapless victims in the whole process that got nothing more than a good jerking around, I don't think it was personal.

If the B12 thought that it would make them more money, they'd add someone tomorrow.

It's impossible to predict who, where and how... but the next time someone pulls a trigger and the expansion bomb goes off, I think a lot of people are going to be landing in different places... AAC members included.

Well - If Memphis was a lock the Big 12 last time, we are an absolute 100% certainty this next time if there's any shift in the conference at the expiration of the Big 12 grant of rights. Our football has only got more established and our basketball will likely bring in a top 10 or top 5 recruiting class. 04-rock up

RE: Where is everyone going?
There is a large amount of discussion about OU joining the B1G among their fans. They are frequently mentioned on https://mobile.twitter.com/flugempire as a coming member of that conference. Flugaur claims to have inside infomation.

I believe the OU administration very much wants to join the B1G for academics. OU is not a great academic/research school but they want to be. It only made Carnegie RU/VH in 2011, the same year as UH which is much younger. I don't believe they can match UH's progress with their current situation due to differences in financial resources. UH is currently receiving more than $100 million contributions per year in addition to state funding and high level IP revenues. I don't think any school in Oklahoma can match that. However, if they go to the B1G they can advance rapidly in academics.

If OU leaves the Big 12, UT will also. The remaining schools will not find any destinations unless it is to a G5 conference. It will reload with AAC schools. P4 will have arrived.

That leaves the rest and those left are better by far than the bottom half of this conference. Combine the top half of this conference with those big 12 schools and you have a much better conference in my opinion. One that is better then the current AAC. Sure - while the top half of the AAC is respectable and some teams can compete with anybody the bottom half of the AAC is absolutely pathetic --- and therein lies the big difference.

I am an ECU guy that occasionally comments. I hear what you are saying however OK and TX and Kansas have a MUCH easier path to the College Football Playoff in the B12 than they do in any other Cartel conference. End of the day, I believe that will trump everything and they will agree to stay in the B12 fold. Not only that, regional rivals are a HUGE plus.

Bingo. OK making the playoffs the last two seasons has pretty much guaranteed the Big12 will remain as-is. OK and TX aren't leaving and aside from a scheduling agreement with BYU similar to what ND has with the ACC, nobody is joining.

Let’s simplify this:
99.9% of “rumored” inside info of Texas/Gooners leaving da’ Big 12 are:
RUMOR

ASK URSELF
Why would Texas/OU leave?
More $$$$$??? More Control????? More Authority???????

They both have:
Huge following, Huge $$$$$ base, Almost Infinite Resources
Run the Big 12; Favorable tiered $$$$ revenue for home games

OU/Tex game
Each school keeps 100% of its ticket revenue
(Estimated 8-10 million per school per yr)
Plus $500,000 each from city of Dallas each yr

What Conference will give N2 all those demands??????????

2017 Texas AD reported revenue of $185 million
2nd only to A&M in terms of Total $$$$$
Gooners are @ 8th place, @ a mere $138 million

3rd Tier TV Rights
Shorthorns own their own Network (Currently, $15 million guarantee)
Oklahoma’s TV Network on Fox Sports Regional Net (Currently, $7 million per yr)

***Here’s some inside info:
Texas/OU will never/ever give up their Individual Networks
Why? Because the future “TV rights” fees,
will B more & more tiered & favored towards
those individual schools, like a Texas/OU,
And not the conferences.

Pretty soon you might see all home games @ Texas
“Exclusively” broadcast via the Shorthorn Network

Imagine the revenue OU/Tex game could command
IF it had yearly open TV rights/bidding for that game?

Just look @ the Bosie/BYU/Notre Dame contracts
More to follow….

ECU is not going anywhere unless some unforeseen shake up and major realignment occurs. The best that we and most of schools in this conference can hope for is to grow the AAC, make it as marketable as possible and cut into the P5 at every turn. Otherwise...its pretty much our ceiling. It is what it is. This talk of the SEC is laughable.

Here's a summary of that podcast:
  • Believe me when I tell you the B12 is going to collapse.
  • Kansas and Oklahoma will go to the B1G
  • *10 minutes railing on AAC fans*
  • Here's what's going to happen...
  • *10 minutes railing on reporters*
  • So Kansas and Oklahoma go to the B1G, write that down, it's happening
  • *10 minutes complaining about twitter mentions*
  • So Kansas and Oklahoma leave, and Texas goes somewhere
  • and then the B12 is gone.

Things left out. B12 has a contract with the CFP. Not Texas, not Oklahoma, the B12.
That contract pays out annually about what we're hoping a new AAC TV contract would pay out.
B12 is part of NCAA autonomy
B12 has a contract with the sugar bowl

This is the BE again. The BE did not get absorbed by CUSA, it worked the other way. It flows downhill. AAC will refill from CUSA/SBC. CUSA/SBC will fight it out or just merge.

It only takes one to leave to get the ball rolling. What about the Pac12? Do they need to make a move? Will the top of the Pac12 and the top of the Big 12 negotiate a conference? Will Texas or Oklahoma follow bigger money? Maybe the Big 12 stays as it is maybe it doesn't who knows ---- and that's sort of the issue isn't it?

I'm sure there is some discord in the Big12 over TX, but overall, all 8 members have an easier path then they would in any other conference. I don't see a gamble worth taking if I'm any of the Big12 schools

Exactly! Stay in the Top 2 or 3 in the B12 or likely become mid pack in the B10 or SEC. P12 makes no geographic sense for either team and it would suck for the fans. Going to the B10 they might make a few more million, to the SEC about 7-9 million more. P12 would be about the same as the B12. The ACC is lower than the B12. So lets say the SEC comes calling, welcome to 6th or 7th place.

Pretty fair summation. It's his opinion and is as valid as anyone else's. Although I'd give him more credit than anyone on here.

You left out his discussion on a possible GOR and an increased TV contract, the crux of the podcast.

Here's a bit of a counter view from Marc Daniels

https://www.iheart.com/podcast/139-the-b...-30279043/

You have to wonder what the real value of the GOR is. ACC had a GOR and Maryland left, like a month after signing it.

So if it can be broken, what weight does it carry in a negotiation?

Honestly I do not think I'm going to listen to these guys if there is another realignment rumor. Last time we had this guy say he knew stuff. There was another guy on Twitter who claimed he lunched on occasion with an inside source. He called this guy Big 10 Man ... I kid you not. That guy said UConn was getting into the Big 12 and people on the UConn board would paste his tweets lol. There's another guy on Twitter who called himself the West Virginia dude or something like that. Him and the guy with the Big Ten source would provide conflicting information and they would go at each other on Twitter calling the other a fraud. And now I see one of them is back. COGS

So let me get this straight. On the first page of this thread we have two East Carolina fans who argue that the Big 12 we'll stay just as it is. No one will leave the Big 12 and they will add no one. On the second page of this thread we have another East Carolina fan who links a C Austin Cox podcast where it is claimed - to a certainty - that the Big 12 will collapse because Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas we'll leave the conference. Just wanted to sum up where we're at at this point 03-wink
