Conditional game. If VT can get bowl eligible with a win, they will play it Dec. 1.

Not sure why they don't go ahead and get the extra week of practice and schedule it regardless.

at this point, VT becoming bowl eligable would cost G5 a bowl spot

No, VT needs to win against UVA to get to 5-6 and will play Marshall for a CHANCE to get bowl eligible. If UVA beats them, then the game will not be played, we get $100K and a home and home.

Nice. Should be a fun series 3 hours apart.

Yeah, oh...and we get the 1.3 MM. So we came out pretty well on this one.

It is. Went to a Marshall game a coupe of years ago when they hosted Louisville: it’s aboit 2.5 hours away. Fans treated us like royalty - food and drinks galor. And.... they seemed to want to make sure we didn’t confuse them with treatment from the fans further northeast... lol

I would say this is the year the Wahoo's finally come out on top but it is UVA so they'll likely find a way to lose. Last time they won the rivalry game was 2003. Also, this year marks the 100th meeting between the two teams.

I hope that UVA wins this weekend so that the Hokies have to play in Huntington.

It's my understanding that happens anyway (a home and home).

If VT beats UVA it becomes a 2-for-1 with a $300K check to Marshall.

Exactly. 1-1 regardless. $300000 if VT wins tomorrow, and $100000 if not.

Cool. I'd like to see more of these regional OOC match ups occur. Conferences like the ACC, AAC, and C-USA are so spread out; its strategically advantageous for nearby programs to clash on the gridiron. I'd like to see the Friends of Coal bowl and the Black Diamond Trophy game to become more regular as well.

We have several P5s within driving distance of Huntington: WVU (3hrs), OSU (3), UK (2.5), UL (3.0), Pitt (4.0), VT (3), UT (5).

Wake Forest is 4:15 by car... Indiana is 4.5 hrs away (both closer than UT).

I'd absolutely love to play the Bearcats more often. I wish that the Big 12 would invite them so that it's a P5 vs P5 game. The Big 12 should have been more daring and added Cincy and L'ville when WVU and TCU were admitted.

...and yet the Big Ten already considers Cincinnati to be an acceptable P5 substitute for other B1G teams, so why can't Ohio State play them home & home? It would certainly save money AND Buckeye fans could even make it to the away game.

We all know why, we're just jerking the chain a little bit.

For the obvious reasons that on and off the field, the game will benefit Cincy far more than Ohio State, and it is silly to help build up an in-state FBS program.

It's the same reason down here we almost never see LSU play any of the plethora of in-state FBS programs. Heck, there are 3 other FBS programs within 100 miles of the LSU campus.

Congratulations, Marshall!
Thanks to the Hokies' victory today, you just won an additional $200K and an extra week of practice AND another football game, likely complete with some form of television exposure!
