to begin collecting signatures. This is at killerfrogs.com, check it out for yourself, I am not making this up. These guys actually have to begin collecting petitions to get their new network included in a number of new markets, essentially several of their own markets that don't currently have CSTV.
They are actually going through this activity, and still it doesn't dawn on them what this signifies. I guess if you want to actually ever see most of that $82 million, you'd better start working on it yourself as fans.
At least one of the major newsprint stories on this new contract yesterday acknowledged the Comcast deal signed by CSTV, increasing their "potential" TV homes to 52 million. In the next sentence, it went on to say that the actual number of homes within that "potential" market size subscribing to CSTV was approximately 10 million. It is part of a premium package, and is apparently way up the channel dial. So they get 20% market penetration, and if they work their asses off maybe they get that up to 30%. Premium packages never do much better than that. If they double the number of potential homes to 100 million, maybe that gets them up to 25-30 million actual homes.
Even if you're hard core MWC, you take all this in and it has to be hard to stay positive and enthusiastic.
What the heck are these guys thinking. What the heck is the average TCU backer thinking. This is a real short term recruiting problem, kids want TV exposure that is readily available and recognizable; they all know ESPN and even Fox, but CSTV?
Is this what TCU signed up for? Their head coach, for example, is on record as being strongly in favor of the exposure he got from midweek national TV games. He was on record in favor of CUSA. I assume TCU does not want to lose this guy, he is a quality coach and other schools will try to get him. How long do you go on ignoring his view?

The midweek and other exposure provided by ESPN is what has helped many non-bcs schools recruit against the bs/bcs schools. One thing coach Cal and TW agree on is these kids are smart about the process of recruiting and the business of making it to the next level. They like the possibility of exposure on a national level not only because it is exciting to be in that atmosphere but it is a chance to show off their wares and hopefully build their stock. I just don't see this new network pulling off a ESPN-like success story here. I think the odds are very long that they will survive at all. jmho

People don't see them now on ESPN (the biggest cable sports network out there)...they had the worst ratings of all conferences on ESPN...now what makes these guys think that now people will all of a sudden see them on this channel that nobody has even heard of? CSTV???
People didn't care about them then...and they aren't going to care about them in the future. They are dreaming about these 52 million home numbers. These people seem to forget that CSTV isn't on in most of these homes anyways.
If nobody would see them on their basic cable/satellite ESPN channel, why would people who don't care about the MWC pay for CSTVVho? to see some games that they don't give a damn about in the first place?

One thing that represents a major difference between ESPN and CSTV was that the reason people doubted ESPN was because it came out at a time when cable itself was brand new and nobody knew much about the potential for the entire cable tv venture. At the same time as ESPN was coming out, so was CNN. People doubted both, as they did every cable channel.
Also ESPN was an easy network to succeed because it covered ALL sports, including the popular professional sports. Sure, they filled the late night hours with monster truck racing and motocross, but primarily they were able to cover the pro leagues, even if they didn't have the ability to show games. They covered obscure parts of popular leagues, like the NFL Draft. And importantly -- they were the ONLY sports option for tv viewers on the air at the time. They were filling a huge market, not a niche. CSTV is SET UP with the MISSION of showing only college sports, and there aren't enough of them going on to have a cable network. Hell, ESPN has trouble filling in a 24 hour schedule with a much wider scope, even they show professional mini-golf and jousting (yes, I've seen it). What is CSTV going to show in the summer months? It has nothing of any use to offer a cable provider for at least 1/4th of the year. And unlike in the case of ESPN's development, this time THERE IS an alternative for the sports fan: ESPN, FSN, etc.

That's too funny
They need a petition to get cable companies to pick up their games; wow, MWC football and HBO 66 as a package deal.
Welcome to the world of the worst ratings the NCAA has seen (as well as the worst academics, the worst bowl support and the list goes on and on in the league of rocks and sand)

For the MWC, that is impressive- about the average number of watchers of their ESPN games.

Have you told that to your new buddies in CUSA??
All of you seem to start flaming towards MWC just because we refused to bend over and take it from ESPN like your WAC sisters did!

If they are flaming you, it's because you MWAC guys keep coming onto a CUSA board and posting crap about how great your new contract is (Rebel Robert). No one here cares to have MWAC fans posting MWAC news on a CUSA board. I don't go to the MWAC board and post UTEP news. If I did I would expect to get flammed, especially when I consider the fact that the guys on that board are some of the biggest jerks around (i.e. zoombag, baycouger etc...).

So you know that MWCboard has some stupid posters that post more frequently than MWC fans. Two of the most notorius are WAC fans (yoda, tallgrass) and the most stupidest is a UTEP fan (UTEPfan)

"The most stupidist"?
Tallgrass is an idiot, I'll give you that. Yoda isn't a flamer and doesn't insult the MWAC every chance he gets. I still don't see the need to come over to the CUSA board and insult the conference and it's fans. At the end of the day the MWAC and the CUSA are both non BCS and therefor both are in the same boat. The fact that non BCS conference fans are insulting eachother is sad.

Tallgrass (Tulsa), Yoda (Fresno St.) and UTEPDude, have all said that they like stirring things up in the MWAC board because of the "We are better than you guys" attitude that alot of MWAC fans seem to have. From what you MWAC fans have shown us here on our boards, I don't blame them for having fun with you guys.
