RE: MBB - Game 3 vs. UIC
So great to see the guys play in-person last night. Proud of the effort. Frustrated by the result - we beat that team 7 times out of 10 - but plenty of adversity thrown our way. Great teams learn to overcome that adversity, and I think we will.

A few comments from what I saw, and what others have posted:

- This team's depth is real. You can't base your assessment on the stat sheet only. Quinn...really strong last night. Thornton...great first half (agree kind of odd he didn't play much in the 2nd, but Luke was handling things pretty well). Chase...all over the court on defense. LJ...best player on the floor for the last ~10 minutes. Luke...great on-ball defense in 2nd half particularly, and seemed very cool and collected during crunch time. We have 2 5-man rotations that can actually compete at the college level. We have not been able to say that for a LONG time.

- We've at least slightly improved on-ball perimeter defense (in the 2nd half in particular, Luke/LJ/Chase were all hounding the ball and doing a pretty good job of it. What is terrible is our team help defense. No matter how good we are on-ball, penetration will happen. Right now, if our first guy is beat, the other team will score. Look at UIC's field-goal percentage. That's because they shot so many lay-ups.

- Love the offensive rebounds from both Quinn and Justin. Just makes you think how much Nate could have dominated if he'd actually played last night!

- Justin is such a fierce competitor. Pro scouts will be looking at him even more as the year wears on. Talent and athleticism are off the charts. Still want to see him do more on defense.

- Chase is finding himself, and we are likely to see a different Chase each game throughout OOC, but potential impact on this team (starting this year) is big.

- Fatigue (for Justin in particular) could be in an issue at Notre Dame. Not much turnaround time from Thursday night OT game to Saturday noon game. But hopefully Nate puts up a big first half, and we can hold on for the victory.

3 games in and per KenPom W&M has the 2nd best offense and 2nd worst defense in the conference. Good to know there are some constants in these uncertain times.
