The Senate’s rules prohibit senators “cashing in” on using their official positions for personal gain.

FACT said that linking a promise of official action with campaign contributions violates that principle.

“This is a clear violation of the Senate Ethics rules which safeguard against the appearance or actuality of elected officials ‘cashing in’ on their official position for political purposes,” said Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT.

Spokespersons for Ms. Harris and Ms. Warren didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

I have received tons of emails from Harris (not as many from Warren but some). Every single one of them that I recall asks for a specific donation to an institution (Move On or some other liberal activist site), or in Harris' case, she'll ask for donations specifically for other candidates. I honestly don't recall a single text where she asks for donations to her own fundraising platform.

Why would Harris even ask for personal donations? She's not up for re-election to the Senate until 2022 I think, and she hasn't announced a bid for the presidency - yet.

Now Warren I guess could be asking for personal donations. But I highly doubt she did either.

Unless you're saying asking for donations to anyone's re-election bid, or an activist site is illegal, I really doubt any laws were broken.

I opted out of a lot of Republican emails/texts but I'll assume tons of prominent Republican politicians are constantly sending out requests for donations too. I just don't get what the FACT person is trying to say. I'll assume Kevin McCarthy (used to be Paul Ryan) sends out requests like crazy. During the 2016 election, Paul Ryan asked me for money just about every day.
