I'm a Louisiana Cajun fan, but my in-laws were from Hattiesburg, and my mother-in-law and some of my wife's other relatives went to USM. My father-in-law went to Mississippi State and he was the hardest in-law to get along with. 03-wink

Seriously I've been to Roberts Stadium several times and really admire the Southern Miss program and have always hoped that UL would be able to emulate it some day.

I've read about Iowa trying to get you to change your logo and I think they need a pair of glasses. I see no similarities. You two don't even have the same nickname.

Are you planning to put that new eagle head logo on your football helmets this season? I suggested to my wife's cousin that had a bumper sticker with that on it that you do so.

Good luck this season! 03-wink

No, Iowa can't make us change our logo. There is very little resemblence in the logo itself except for it being a birds head. If Louisville's colors were black&gold I'm sure Iowa would say that the Cardinal looked too much like their Hawkeye logo.

Any team that uses a bird's head for a logo will undergo some type of you look like this school or that school's logo. Iowa is trying to throw some weight around & should stop wasting their & our time.

I think this sums things up well; it's an article from a newspaper in IOWA (the Quad-Cities Times, to be exact):
--------------

Hawkeye officials have no case vs. Southern Miss
.
This seems to be the University of Iowa athletic department’s year for making bizarre, senseless stands on non-issues.
.
First there was that business about the university complying with a 10-year-old policy of not playing schools that have American Indian nicknames even though it had ignored the policy for much of the past decade.
.
Now Iowa officials are telling the University of Southern Mississippi that it must stop using a logo that they insist is too much like their own.

We can’t help but echo the puzzlement of Southern Mississippi attorney Lee Gore, who told the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American: “We’re trying to figure out why they think they have a claim.
