Thanks, but we're actually a pretty bad team talent-wise (with a few exceptions), with no quarterback, but a coaching staff that's light years ahead of what we had before, so we are hopeful for the future.

Not a dick at all. Glad to host you in the 'play by play' room.

But I would disagree with you. I had a good feeling watching this team play above where they were last year against UHoo and UH-Surfboard.

Tonite was rank. Quite frankly, I did not see a single positive in the Rice team tonite.

Yep. We've seen coaching adjustments in previous games that had a big impact on the game... not so much, tonight, though I don't know if there were any tools left in the box. I don't think USM exposed anything that Rice could adjust to. Coaching changes can't come in the form of "play bigger", "run faster", "block longer"... From what I could see, they had players in position to make plays, and sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't. Maybe they could have adjusted better to the multitude of screens, but that's way beyond my football knowledge...

I think we're seeing the beginning of a transformation, and I like what I've seen so far.

I don't disagree with you, but I also don't see reason to be discouraged. I've had this penciled in as a ??-70 point loss for the better part of a year... this is more than likely a game that Rice could not win with what I think is a talent disparity and with competent coaching on the USM side. I don't see any vulnerabilities on the USM side that Rice failed to exploit given the players available.

The previous Rice games against UHouston and UHawaii featured a *much* better Rice team.

But I think in retrospect the team in those two played well above their heads.

I will agree with you on the coaching. But the simple fact is that talent-wise Rice showed it is still a bottom 20 contender.

USM was predictable. That doesn't hurt when it works every time. I don't know whether Rice could've made changes to stop USM. It seemed clear that they didn't.
