"We will do what's best for Virginia Tech moving forward as it relates to ECU and to the game," Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said in a statement. "We certainly understand the need for safety, of course, we just felt that tomorrow, making the decision then, would've been more responsible and accurate. We informed ECU of this multiple times."

Nice of their AD to "inform us" that we could just sit on our hands with a catastrophic storm heading right for us until they decide they want to make a decision.

It doesn't look good that news leaked out before noon that you were taking the team to Orlando to prep for USF.

You mean so they don't get stuck in the Carolinas and lose 2 games...? Don't be irresponsible.

They wouldn't get stuck in the Carolinas.

It is clear that they decided to go to Florida to prep for USF and didn't care whether the game could be played in Blacksburg. Whether they flew out to FL tomorrow or VA, it wouldn't have them stuck in Greenville.

They might as well have said Sunday that they weren't coming. Why even pretend you would wait to see if Blacksburg was in the path if it didn't factor in?

I apologize for a hurricane coming through S.C./NC/VA. Sorry it kept us from playing this week. I imagine all the ECU, UCF, WVU, NCSU, Liberty, UNC, and UVA fans are disappointed that football isn’t being played this weekend. VT fans are not the only one disappointed but guess what no one can control Mother Nature. Obviously, no other program or ADs has issues with games being canceled.

I think it is more that ECU cancelled a home VT game without knowing if the game could be played. Nobody is saying you should put your team in harm's way but the storm has slowed and changed projected course since yesterday. The option to fly to Florida would still be there after a potential game. Maybe it would still warrant being cancelled tomorrow. The latest projections have pulled it farther from Blacksburg and later arriving.

UVA had to schedule a game in Nashville because they need it to be bowl eligible. They probably would have waited if they had won last week. The other schools aren't in the same dituation geographically as VT.

Liberty is literally in the same situation geographically. Also last track has Blacksburg getting 10+ inches of rain, which can lead to flash floods and mud slides for you guys. Be Safe

We weren't flying to VT, from everything I've read we were supposed to be bussing there. So you wanted ECU to wait till tomorrow to try to bus in the middle of an active evacuation, since you know the entire freaking outer banks is evacuating down 264, just to maybe or maybe not be able to play the game in at best awful conditions and at worst downright dangerous ones, and then maybe or maybe not get stuck there for a week or 2?

Are Virginia Tech fans that worried they can't get 6 wins in 11 games?

just to inform those Hokie fans that don't know, ECU is not afraid of playing during a hurricane. ECU has an extensive history of navigating a football schedule during hurricane season. In fact, we've actually beaten a top 10 ranked Miami Hurricanes team after being decimated by a real hurricane (at NCSU's stadium because 1/2 of Greenville was under water. Accordingly, I would defer to our better judgment on these matters. We also beat #8 WV right after a hurricane in '08 (beat VT the week before btw).

If it's only 10 inches of rain then that wouldn't be the most rain we've had this year.

Maybe it would have still been canceled tomorrow and you could still fly to Florida. Or it wasn't and you come to VA.

You would not get stuck in VA for a week. Even if you had to wait until Sunday or Monday to fly to Florida.

You could even evacuate to Charlotte for a day and see what it looks like...get on the plane or the bus tomorrow.

It just seems to some that it was never about the weather in Blacksburg, ECU decided not to come regardless.

Please see video above and it may give you a better perspective about the logistics and possible hazards a storm of this magnitude can create for an ECU football team traveling by bus.

Nobody cares that the game isn't being played. Most would love the entire series to be cancelled.

The ones that are upset are mad that ECU unilaterally decided a day earlier than agreed and tried to make VT look bad in the process.

The only one who made VT look bad was Babcock. And Virginia Tech beat writers agree.

Man I've always had the upmost respect for VT but from looking at their message board there is a lot of disdain and contempt aimed at ECU concerning circumstances even outside this current situation.

All of them are spitting this out. They’re all using the word unilaterally also which is weird. ECU did not agree to Wednesday and according to Montgomery VT repeatedly pushed back their decision. VT fans are just butthurt they aren’t playing and are not using their empathetic capabilities.

No it seems like literally every school but VT is correctly erring on the side of caution with what could be the worst storm to hit the region since 1954. Instead you guys are like "hey what's the harm in you guys waiting 1 more day" ignoring the fact that ECU is going to have to figure out a place to be probably for the next week or 2 because once they leave Greenville they aren't getting back because the whole area is going to flood worse than you can possibly imagine. I'm sure there's also just a bunch of hotel availability in Charlotte short notice with a state of freaking emergency and millions evacuating the coasts of both North and South Carolina!!! You are giving this literally zero thought of what it takes to move around a football team, the amount of people that are out and fleeing the area, and how bad this is about to get.
