To those of you who asked what it is that we were hoping to see, the answer is simple--this.
Totally agree.
Did anybody have the same feeling after the $0.05 State game? This is so many years ago (can't believe it is 30), but 1989 comes to mind....
I think last week might have evoked some $0.05 State feelings. I was kind of having 2006 feelings about today.

For a place that does great stuff and produces well grounded folks, their fan base may be about the worse there is, other than perhaps the Dallas Cowboy fans who don't live anywhere near their area code......
This sort of brings back memories. After graduation in 1977, I left my home town of Houston for Fort Worth. The people here were and have been totally wonderful, except they are kind of myopic with respect to their Dallas Cowboys. We had an oldish man, a chiropractor by trade, in our church who seemed to have a total lock on the privilege of closing the “adult” Sunday Bible study with his long lofty prayers. But during football season he had to ALWAYS make several comments about “our” Dallas Cowboys game that day. The guy was as nice a fellow as one could hope to meet. But the constant man-love for the Cowboys, not just by him but just about every other guy I knew, was nauseating. It is pretty much the same now days with the TCU crowd around here. As much as I want to see my alma mater supremely successful in athletics, I sure hope our fans never approach even the TCU or Baylor level of arrogance about it.

I had a bit of a flashback to 2006 myself in the second quarter.

Here's a link to a post I made in 2011 that included a Los Angeles Times article that detailed the hubbub caused by Jim (Hoss) Brock's remarks, which came before the Jan. 1, 1985, Cotton Bowl that featured Doug Flutie's Boston College vs. UH.:

Brock's inflammatory remarks were said to have been first published in an article by Furman Bisher in the Atlanta Journal ... and then picked up, among others, by Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News. (I have not tracked down those articles.)
(There was also some Parcialment discussion in 2014 about this incident: https://csnbbs.com/thread-702771-post-11...id11128417)
