Man I used to love to hate those guys. Just watched them choke playing NC A&T and just damn....they had the recipe for success, added medical and dental programs, huge fan base by G5 standards, tradition....

What happened to them?

They hired a TERRIBLE coach, Scottie Montgomery.

They got Ellis Johnsoned....

Coaching a big issue. Also dealing with the rise of a bunch of schools around them to D1. Same problem we’ve had with recruiting. A lot of great players we used to get by default have a lot more options now.

Don’t know if Liberty, ODU, App, Charlotte, etc have had as big of an impact on ECU as Troy, USA, MTSU’s, etc impact on us. I think they can get back on track with a good coach. Montgomery is just terrible.

They thought they had hired Montgomery (Scottie) Scott...

And with their next 3 games being UNC, Va Tech and South Florida, they might be using an interim coach in game 5 vs CUSA member ODU.

ECU seems to have a weird thing about hiring alums/coaches from the area.

I thought they could have done a lot better than Ruffin years back. But they wanted to bring him “home.” He actually ended up having a few good years, at least.

I have no clue what they were thinking with Montgomery.

No he won't be. They still have several suspended players and will for some more games.

They have 10 suspended. Their qb started their last 3 games last year and was in competition to be the starter this year. They are getting doubled up by ECU and went 3-9 last year. He's toast.

well, at least ECU's turnaround between week 1 and week 2 gives us a smidgen of hope next week.....maybe.
