RE: Attendance
Just from the few pics I saw it looked like around 40K. Am I wrong?

RE: Attendance
I'm pretty sure whatever method they use to count attendance for this first game have some fundamental flaw. It missed a lot of those sitting in the seats.

By the way, Calkins just tweeted that he has talked to a lot of people who did not have their tickets scanned. I know the lady that scanned our tickets was having a hard time with her scanner.

RE: Attendance
I spent some time looking for my brother at the game. I was walking in & out of sections in the first quarter. I noticed at some gates there were long lines of people that hadn't made it in yet. I also noticed a lot people on the main concourse mingling and people watching. I think the count was 45K+.

RE: Attendance
They couldn't scan tickets that were on people's phones. And when a scanner jammed, which apparently happened frequently, they just waved people in rather than hold up the line.

The University ought to demand better and should have serious issues with this.

RE: Attendance
If 33k was the announced attendance, that is BS. I know it had to be at least 40k plus and our fricking AD department needs to get on the ball. It looks horrendous and is dad gum embarrassing for our program to not drop at least 40k for the home opener on a good weather night.

Coach Norvell is busting his rear to build us a top level program and to have such an intolerable minor league issue as not being able to count attendance – this is a joke. And you wonder as hard as he is trying to promote Memphis football, why he might go to another school where he would get all the support…

If we want to be a first class program and be able to brag with the boys from the other side of the state and get rid of the “Tiger High image”, then we need to get our act together. This should sent off a vast response to our AD. He needs to quit updating his resume and starting doing what he is paid to do. Folks, please let him know we are not supporting such incompetency and Dr Rudd might need to know how we feel as well-- be real Tiger fans and email today!

Embarrassing.

If there was 33k there last night, then Penny Hardaway is 5’10”.

RE: Attendance
I'll bet my last dollar there were more than 33,000 in attendance yesterday and Memphis continues to screw itself when reporting fan interest. Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, etc. are considered great programs, not because they win games, but because they have huge fan bases. You hire great coaches to get good players to win games, to ultimately increase the amount of fans a program has. The best way to measure that is with game attendance.

Memphis is in a perception battle with about 10 other schools of who is the best program not currently in a p5 conference. The year we sell out every game for a season is the year we get invited to a better conference. simple math, every FBS team that has more that 50,000 fans for game attendance is in a p5 conference, except BYU, who is judged by their religious views.

Dr Rudd needs to wake up and have a serious talk with the city or whomever is responsible for under reporting our attendance. It is the absolute worst thing we need at this time. Every other school we are competing against reports tickets sold plus bands, vendors, media, etc. They have half the fans Memphis has, but the national perception is they are better supported. This pisses me off.

RE: Attendance
Hopefully the administration sees this and makes the appropriate change to the more correct attendance, and see to it this doesn't happen again (scanner problems). My guess was between 42 and 45,000. 33,000 my@ss.

Same here. The lines were long and she scanned three times with nothing. She looked at the ticket and I went in. It felt much more like 40.

RE: Attendance
For the record, my ticket would not scan last night and I went in. I assumed there was something wrong with my ticket but apparently it was widespread. Way more than 33k AT the game.

What kind of dumb*** made the decision to release the "turnstile count" rather than tickets sold like every other school?

somebody's head should roll

I wonder if there's a way to retroactively correct the attendance to make it resemble something close to accurate
