Candid Coaches: Who was the best coaching hire of 2018 in college basketball?

Penny is 3rd behind Chris Mack and Dan Hurley.

Loved this line in the article:

"...Previous winners in this survey question include Archie Miller to Indiana in 2017, Brad Underwood to Oklahoma State in 2016 (Tubby Smith to Memphis was second; whoops)..."

It is nice to read confirmation of something Tiger fans already know.

It's a Head Coaches survey. Barbee no longer qualifies.

It is fun to speculate on the quotes. The first 2 quotes are people intimately familiar with Memphis. Could be Cal or Forbes. I'm guessing one is either Pearl or Crean. I like to picture the second quote coming from Pastner.

I have to say, I enjoy the candid coaches series each year.

Cal isn't going to give any phrase to he recruiting rival like[/i] Penny unless he can twist it to his advantage somehow. Since he can't attach his name to it, I don't see how he can do that here.

I will bet anything it was Clean. He knows the city from his days at Marquette and he curses like a sailor.

That second one cracked me up I couldn’t help but read it in a hype man voice. Like an alter ego dick vital.

Parrish said on his show that it was a SEC head coach, probably Cal, Pearl or Crean.
