Akenebu’s name I haven’t heard all fall so he might’ve left sometime before camp... But Faaeteete was definitely on the roster last week or so... That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was one our earliest departures...

Except for PVAMU playing better against us last night (big WR's are going to give us fits), pretty much met my expectations.

Over under for wins seems to me about 3, maybe 2.

I think that's a sober assessment. And not a pessimistic one -- I was hoping to see a competent and motivated team that, if it loses, it does so because of differences in talent. I think that's about what I saw.

We took advantages of the other team's mistakes and did not commit many on our own (outside of, you know, bad tackling).

I think we'll win between 3 and 5 games. It would be shocking to get to 6 wins.

As my friend Antarius says, a single data point does not make a trend. The first game of the season is unique in so many ways. However, I am not as optimistic as I was earlier. I previously said four games. Now I think, 2-4.

3-5 after last night. I could tell the coach is better, and i could tell the talent is still the talent David have.

I was a little let down with the coaching, frankly. The talent level is obviously poor, but I expected a little better from the coaching staff. 4 wins looks to be a stretch at this point, so I'm revising downwards and saying 2 wins

+1. *Very* inauspicious debut on the coaching front. Old-school letter grade: D; new-age letter grade: NI (needs improvement).

Before the season, I predicted, on The Parliament (and to friends), that Rice would finish 2-11. I saw nothing last night to convince me that my assessment was incorrect. However, there may be a couple of the other weak C-USA teams that will not take Rice seriously, and sleepwalk to a loss.

In the prediction thread I predicted seven or eight wins. I felt pretty good about the prediction when we were up 16-0 and dominating the game. But Overall, I thought the performance was anemic. If things do not change, my prediction will turn out to be wildly overly optimistic.

Good things however were apparent half time adjustments and not giving up.

Didn’t you predict a 10 point victory for Prairie View? Hard to imagine where you saw 2 wins if one of them wasn’t this game.

The 2nd and 3rd quarters were alarming but for me, Coach gets the benefit of the doubt. I think this a situation where a great deal of improvement over the season is possible and I’m hopeful we’ll see it.

RE: FB Expectations
I predicted 4. This team will have to improve a lot to make that happen. I'm going to be optimistic that this staff can get that done. I think there are CUSA teams that are not so much better than Prairie View as to make 4 wins impossible. But it's going to take squeezing every bit of talent out of this group to get there.

The one thing that I see as glaring is we need a lot more speed on defense. The other is there were still to many silly penalties.

The good news is that, no matter how great a coaching job he and his staff do, I don't think there is any way we win enough this year for any of them to attract offers to hire them away. The better news is that I think they're good enough that we don't want any of them getting hired away.

??? Were we watching the same game? Given this was the first game of the season, with a very young and inexperienced roster, a couple delay penalties, one hold and one questionable unsportsmanlike penalty is not what I'd classify as "many silly penalties".

I just watched the replay. Pass interference in the end zone when we had the guy well covered looked silly to me. However... Rice is 1-0 therefore (despite “numerous” silly penalties) there were NOT “too many”.

Work in progress and better than anything I’ve seen from the Owls since last year’s UTEP win.

Maybe my standards are higher in that regard. 2 false starts and 2 delays is too many. OO and I have been debating this for years, we need to clean it up or I'm going to look like the foolish one. I do think these will be addressed, and I don't expect them to continue.
