UCONN and Tennessee Agree to a home & home...
In Women's basketball.
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-baske...ry-2020-21
One of the biggest rivalries in Women's sports begin Jan, 23, 2020.
i think this is big for TV negotiations if Aresco is smart he should sell that to (SEC)ESPN, because we all know ESPN loves UCONN women's basketball lol

It's gonna get monster ratings, possibly the highest ever for a WBB game (including NCAA tourney games).

I am glad to read it. Petty squabbling should not have prevented the series.

Is this a precursor to a football series?

Apparently the football series is being worked out right now. Either Tennessee honors their home and home agreement or they're gonna be writing a fat check (most likely outcome).

It is economics for them...but I bet a lot of Tenn fans would like to see another part of the country. We had probably 7000 TN fans in the Dome back in '98.

Ya, but it was scheduled back when UCONN was a BCS school. Playing an away game at a non-Power school (with our recent history) probably isn't the look their new AD wants (who also happens to be a former Tennessee Football coach).

RE: UCONN and Tennessee Agree to a home & home...
I would think that the timing of the UConn-Tennessee WBB announcement is related to football. It does nothing for Tennessee to play UConn in football just as it does nothing for UConn to play Tennessee in WBB. I am guessing that the Tennessee AD threated to pull out of both football games unless UConn threw in the bone of the home and home for WBB. I bet the compromise (if there is one) will also mean that there will not be a home and home for football, but just UConn going to Tennessee for one game. Stay tuned.

That would be an awful deal. Tenn owes UCONN $1 Mil if no games are played. Why elevate their WBB program and play a one-off at Tenn for likely less than $1 Mil? That's no bone. Let's also not pretend like today's Tenn football is a Clemson/Bama/Oklahoma/Ohio State kind of program. I'd rather collect the $1 Mil and not have Tenn on the schedule. It's all or nothing for me.

I agree, it was a terrible deal. I would have taken the money if they bailed on football and I wouldn't have scheduled them for WBB. If we did what I suspect, then we got the short end of the deal for sure. However, Dave Benedict is a SEC football guy at heart, so I imagine that he thought it would be some great thing on our schedule. We aren't talking Auburn, we are talking Tennessee. If they bailed, there are a few dozen other middling "P5" schools with whom we could have replaced the original contract.
