It's not. It's just the latest way for hoplophobes to expose their ignorance.

Metal 3D printing is cost prohibitive to the average person. That's changing as it is getting pushed into production for mass manufacturing.
Plastic 3D printing though is dirty cheap on the other hand.
Right now both are inferior to automated end mills which cost less than $1,000 and can spit out unregistered fully finished AR-15 lowers all day long.
Why do so many people think 3D printed guns are undetectable? As far as I'm aware, it's only a part of the gun that you print. The rest of the gun is still full of metal and completely detectable. There are still a lot of parts in a gun that are metal and plastic versions would be garbage (interior parts).

This seems like a "scare the public" tactic.
3rd printed guns aren't as scary as a person with an average iq and a high school chemistry book from 1950.. We live in the land of dumb dumbs
Am I the only one who thinks it is scary not that we can produce guns at home, but that technology has progressed so far that we have the ability to create such complex things so easily ?
I am not saying the Cylons will take us over one day or that a T-800 will show up at your door but it does give me pause.
Very interesting interview of Cody Wilson on Michael Malice's show.
Wilson says the first thing mom's demand and giffords did whenever he won his lawsuit, was to file FOIA requests to find out what the NRA did about it. They were completely flat-footed, and had no idea what to do.
"Let's just have an honest conversation about guns."
"How about no, and I'll do what I want."
Like him or not, he's shifting the Overton window back towards freedom, and there's nothing "gun control" groups can do about it.

Well, we live in a world where quick and easy replaced hard work and craftsmanship a long time ago. Hell, it's nearly impossible to find grown adults who know how to make a simple pot of coffee anymore. The average American adult would rather have their coffee poured for them through a hole in a plastic container with hot water poured through it instead of doing the work to have that hot cup of caffeine.
We're almost too lazy to drive our own cars. There's all kinds of inherent dangers we're increasingly willing to accept as a society based on convenience and less work.

It's somewhat embarrassing on some levels.
Yeah, really. How much longer until we have smart leashes that walk our dogs for us or smart cats (HA!) that clean their own litter boxes, lol...

Seriously though. Yeah. You're right. Pretty sad.

If, God forbid, we ever had "smart" cats, they would still be lazy and sit on ass all day.

We clean their feces for them. Dogs get tossed outside to do their business. We wipe our own arses. Yet, the cats have trained us to clean their business, place in bags, haul to garbage.
I'd venture to say the cats are already too smart.

Absolutely. Just ask one. They'll tell you that they are "gods". LOL...

Wait. Are we talking cats or millennials?
Both. But at least cats kill rodents and earn their keep.

Quote:ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an innovative, automatic litter box that stays fresh and clean without the hassle. Instead of scooping every day, the litter box does all the work for you! Once the cat uses the litter box, lightly scented crystals absorb waste moisture and trap odor, while the automatic rake sweeps through the box and pushes the waste out of sight. Clean-up is as easy as placing the lid on the disposable tray and throwing it away.

WORKING WITH METAL
For the longest time, metal-based manufacturing has been difficult and costly. High-strength aluminum alloys are difficult materials to work with for additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing. Now, researchers from HRL Laboratories have developed a new method that allowed them to 3D print high-strength aluminum and weld previously unweldable material.
