It's pathetic. The closest shot was last year when UCF went undefeated. They put down Auburn, and still couldn't even get in the discussion.

I think at our level, the only teams that would ever have a close shot would be to run undefeated for two consecutive years. If UCF went undefeated again this year, which I don't see happening, then they could have a real leg up.

The closest shot was Houston a couple years ago. They had some huge P5 OOC wins. Then they crapped the bed in conference a ruined it. Had they run the table, they would have been in.

UCF got hurt by not playing GaTech due to the hurricane, not saying it would have made a difference, but would not have hurt, and would have given them even more of an argument.

2009 Boise State teams would have been in the playoffs had this system existed then. Basically they had a consistent run where it was hard to deny them Top 5 rankings. They've lost that aura since, but that was the non-BCS/G5's best representation at the top.

So, I don't think its impossible - but a G5 program needs a mini-dynasty to make it happen.

UCF could have paved the way by their performance last year for a G5 to get in, just like we paved the way for non-BCS to get in BCS bowls along with Tulane and their pitbull lawyer.

Remember at the time UCF was denied they had not beaten Auburn. Beating them after the fact had to open a few eyes to G5 potential.

No they wouldn’t have been in. Roy Kramer & Co. Have gone out of their way for segregation they will NEVER allow inclusion of outsiders. It’s nice to think it will happen but until there is a playoff with all conf champs then nothing will ever change. Even if it gets to 8 teams I doubt one makes it.

If they would have had Auburn scheduled in the regular season, that would have meant something. Beating them after the playoff is set doesn't help your cause.

I guess my point is you had an undefeated G5, ended up beating a top 10 SEC team.

They were never even presented as an option during the committee selection phase.

The spread of opinions on FAU's upcoming season is huge. This article mentions FAU as one of potential Play-off busters, yet most experts predict between 7.5 and 10 wins. FAU would have to jump well above its head to be even in the conversation. And frankly, I lean more towards an 8-win season than any CPF considerations.
