Cardiff says he’s only ever known one person who — consistently, in every conversation — referred to themselves in the third person. It was a teenaged girl with autism. So when I read clt’s comments I just naturally remember her — hell, maybe clt *Is* her — and try to be understanding.
I met a couple of people like that over the years

Don’t know what their clinical diagnosis was but they definitely had special-needs

But anyway, Atlanta would be a great site for C-USA events and nobody that lives here ever says “Hotlanta”

I dare you to say that downtown....I.dare.ya.

You would be found naked and whimpering in a gutter the next morning.

All these people from other boards need to recognize. ghostofclt is not referring to himself in 3rd person. He's a medium that is speaking for clt, who is deceased.

I went on vacation in Hotlanta last year and hope I never have to go back outside of a bowl game or conference championship game. Words can't describe how much I hated it there.

I actually love Atlanta. Been there 10-12 times over the last decade and a half.

We gain about 100k residents per year. I am sure we can deal with that one LA Tech guy hating us.

I just think they melodrama is hilarious. "Words can't describe..." really Pilot? Your vacation to Hotlanta Atlanta was so awful that words can't describe how much you hated the city?

The data might be a bit off in terms of where overall alumni bases are located as it is where new graduates are living/working, but still pretty good.

http://www.wsj.com/graphics/where-gradua...counts-wsj

Top (out of 70) "major metros" for each school (in order)...

Rice: Houston, Dallas, NYC, Austin, SF
UNT: Dallas, Houston, Austin, SA, LA
UTEP: Dallas, Houston, Austin, SA, Phoenix (I guess El Paso isn't considered a major metro in this study?)
UTSA: SA, Houston, Austin, Dallas
LA Tech: Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Austin
USM: Jackson, New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston
UAB: Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, D.C.

ODU: Virginia Beach, D.C., Richmond, NYC
FIU: Miami, NYC, Orlando, Atlanta, D.C.
FAU: Miami, NYC, Orlando, Atlanta, Tampa
Charlotte: Charlotte, Atlanta, Raleigh, NYC, D.C.
Marshall: Charleston, Washington, Columbus, Charlotte, Atlanta
WKU: Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Chicago
MT: Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas, D.C.

Perfect illustration of one of the biggest factors in Atlanta's totally overblown reputation as being a "bad sports town".

This is why C-USA would have done well if they had tried to get GA State University (located in downtown Atlanta) back when all the conference shifting was going on.

At the time, GA State was a terrible football team, had never been to a bowl game, and was a recent move-up. But today, their teams are doing much better, they have been to a bowl game, their hoops team did well in the NCAA Tourney a few years ago, and they bought, renovated and converted the old Turner Field/Olympic Stadium (not that old really, but whatever) into their new on-campus home for Football and soon, the old Atl-Fulton County stadium footprint (now a parking lot) will be their new baseball stadium (complete with memorial to Hank Aaron's famous Home Run hit there in the early 1970s).

Had CUSA taken GA State from the 'Belt at the time, likely our conference sports attendance would have received a boost from where it is today for most sports, due to the above-referenced location of alumni. GA State has a bright future in sports, as GA's now largest university by enrollment. Well, there's always the Kennesaw State Owls, just north of the city of Atlanta. They will likely surpass some CUSA teams in the future. How about an All-Owls series in FB, Hoops and Baseball? FAU-Rice-KSU all are named Owls.

The next time you're in "Hotlanta" use your time travel abilities for something better than the Varsity...

It’s still a bit unclear to me who actually patronizes the Varsity.

I don’t know any local Atlantans that go there and for most visitors, it’s a one and done.

They stay busy, I'm pretty sure a fair number of Tech students take the short walk across 75.

I'll eat there occassionally, though haven't in some time(though I do live in the burbs), while Atlanta United was playing at Bobby Dodd, much of the tailgating happened in the parking lot just north of the Varsity and whike I tailgated there at least six times during that nine game stint at BDS, I didn't ever get food there, something about Varsity food before a two hour soccer game never seemed too wise.
