USA Today: C-USA National rankings
USA Today has ranked all 130 FBS programs. I know there is a similar thread about these ranking, but I want to focus on if you feel these rankings truly reflect the current pecking order in C-USA. Here are the rankings for C-USA. Who is too high? Who is too low? Who is where they belong?
17. FAU
44. Marshall
58. North Texas
61. LA Tech
64. Middle Tennessee
68. Southern Miss
89. WKU
92. ODU
94. UAB
97. FIU
102. UTSA
123. Charlotte
124. Rice
130. UTEP

RE: USA Today: C-USA National rankings
I would say it is somewhat accurate. I would have expected to see FAU in the 20-30 range. FIU, possibly, should be in 80-85 range. But they have been ranked even lower in Orlando Sentinel's ranking.

RE: USA Today: C-USA National rankings
Right now - before the season starts - I would say MT is right there about where Marshall is listed assuming a full season of Brent behind center. For the first time in CRS' tenure (13th season) he's got every coach back from the previous year, and with Shafer having a full season to implement his defense and being able to build on that I would say MT will produce one of the best defenses in the league this year. Combine that with Brent and Co., and MT should be right there. Let me emphasize the should be. That's before the season starts. By this point six months from now we'll look back on this thread at MT - through injuries, bad luck and God knows what else - will have stumbled to a .500 record (but probably a 5 win season with the three SEC schools on the schedule). That's fully what I expect to happen.
Otherwise, hard to argue that FAU is the team to beat given all they have coming back.

Conference averages for Myerberg's preseason rankings.
Myerberg included Liberty at 118. For comparison to the Orlando Sentinel countdown, Liberty has been removed and teams 119-130 have been moved up one spot for the average calculations.
Big 12 39.10
SEC 43.71
ACC 45.07
Big Ten 47.14
Pac 12 51.08
Indy 69.80
AAC 73.67
MWC 81.83
C-USA 82.86
MAC 94.75
SBC 96.60

It would be interesting to compare the final conference stats between Myerberg and Orlando Sun-Sentinel.

Not sure how UAB is 94 considering, in our first year back, we beat three teams listed ahead of us and played UNT to the wire on the road.
I'm fine playing the underdog again this season; I doubt UAB will finish the season in the 90s.

disregarding ranking, just on the order...
I would have expected UTSA to be higher. Did they lose that much? Also, UAB seems low.

Looks like it's splitting hairs as they are all clustered pretty close together, but I think UAB should be ahead of WKU and ODU, at least

FIU, UTSA too low
North Texas, ODU too high
FAU not even close way too high
When all the dust settles this year, I think it will be Marshall, FAU and FIU from the east and Tech and USM from the west

I’m not a guy that makes a lot of predictions, but I think UAB is too low. They’ve got 17 starters coming back off a team that won 8 games last season.

We have too many question marks, especially at QB.

Yes, there are question marks, but all of our programs have those. UTSA still has a lot of talent, and Wilson can coach. I agree with Menace, UTSA is too low. I'd place y'all around 85-90.

If you really believe the battle for the west is between LA Tech and USM then you need to read up on the other teams in the west. You may want LA Tech and Southern Miss to be at the top of the division, but right now it appears North Texas has the best odds. To be honest, I think UAB will be in the thick of it too.

I'm not sold on Wilson's coaching ability just yet. Love his enthusiasm, but many of us were scratching our heads last year at the ineptitude of our offensive play-calling. And while I get that Wilson wasn't the OC, in the end he also has to answer for his team's inability to score and lack of offensive imagination.
We have questions at QB, probably even bigger questions on our offensive line, and no one's really sure what to expect from our new OC. And btw, we seem to be falling in the recruiting rankings, which isn't entirely Wilson's fault as we've lost a couple pieces on our coaching staff, but that still raises more question marks going forward as well. I would agree with you though and put us around 90. But to be honest, there really isn't much of any difference at all between 90 and 102, so it's all the same to me. lol

LA Tech's kicker graduated. We won't be attempting half as many of the FBS leading FG attempts that we kicked in 2017. That nonsense lost us 4 games late (3 by 1 point & 1 OT)- UNT being one of them. And yes, we've got Boston Scott's replacement in place. Can't wait for 2018 football!

Yes, we beat LA Tech by 1 point in Ruston last season.
This year the game is @ North Texas, and we return our 1st Team All-Conference QB and all of our starting receivers, from our record setting offense. I can't wait for the 2018 football season either.
