Baseball at UAB
Here's the statistical comparisons. I'll add game notes and such as they become availiable:

http://www.southernmiss.com/sports/m-bas...mcume.html
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/u...SS_4_6.pdf

Records:
USM: 32-12, 16-4 (1st place CUSA), 10-5 away
UAB: 19-23, 11-10 (5th place CUSA), 11-14 at home (overall record includes Tuesday night loss at Samford)

**UAB stats page has not updated to include their 7-5 loss Tuesday night to Samford**

Batting: (USM has played 3 more games stat wise due to the delayed UAB stats page)
Avg: .300 to .245
Hits: 462 to 326
Runs: 359 (8.2 per game) to 178 (4.3 per game)
HR: 47 to 17
K/BB/HBP: 385/236/55 to 258/143/44
SB: 38/50 to 54/70

Pitching:
ERA: 3.52 to 4.24
BA against: .246 to .247
Hits: 367 to 338
Runs: 179 (4.1 per game) to 209 (5.1 per game)
HR: 23 to 28
K/BB/HBP: 392/116/35 to 317/157/67
SB: 39/58 to 35/51
Errors: 45 to 51

Things that jump out:
- we have more power in our lineup
- our hitters strike out WAY MORE than UAB does
- our hitters get WAY MORE walks and runs than UAB does
- UAB has more SB than we have SB attempts (UAB has a player with 22 SB)
- pitching wise the stats are pretty close when it's all said and done except UAB pitchers hit nearly double more than ours

UAB games notes:
https://uabsports.com/news/2018/5/3/base...h=baseball

Quick Hitters
- UAB is coming off of a 7-5 loss at cross-town rival Samford on Tuesday night. In the last weekend of league play, the Blazers took two-of-three at No. 22 Florida Atlantic, marking the first series win on the road against a ranked opponent in program history.
- Ryan Ruggles, the projected Saturday starter, is the reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after throwing a season-high eight innings with a career-best 10 strikeouts.
- Tanner Graham, the projected Friday starter, is having a strong junior campaign. Graham ranks fourth in the league in innings pitched (70.0) and sixth in ERA (2.70). Additionally, he is one of 11 pitchers in the conference to not yield a triple this season.
- Brett Blackwood has been a prominent fixture at the designated hitter position hitting .348, the eighth-best mark in the league, with a .557 slugging percentage, the ninth-highest in the conference.
- Tyler Tolbert enters the weekend on the verge of history, as he is one stolen base shy of cracking the top-10 in a single season. Tolbert leads the league in stolen bases (22) and attempts (27).

Scouting Southern Miss
- The Golden Eagles come to Birmingham as one of the hottest teams in the country with a 32-12 record and 16-4 mark in league play.
- Nick Sandlin, the projected Friday starter, holds a 6-0 record with a 1.00 ERA, the fourth lowest in the NCAA. The right hander is a four-time recipient of C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors.
- Luke Reynolds and Matt Wallner lead Southern Miss at the plate, hitting .389 and .361 respectively. Reynolds' batting average ranks 26th in the country, while also scoring the 17th most runs with 1.2 per game. Wallner leads the team in home runs sending 11 out of the park.

Series History
Overall Record: Southern Miss leads 70-35
In Birmingham: UAB leads 24-22
In Hattiesburg: Southern Miss leads 42-12
Neutral Location: Southern Miss leads 4-1

RE: Baseball at UAB
We've had a really tough time at Young Memorial in the past. Lost series there in 2016, 2010, and 2008. We're two 9th innings rallies away from losing 5 consecutive series there (escaped with wins in game #3 in both 2012 and 2014).

UAB has won series against some pretty good Rice teams at YMF in the past, too. 2009, 2011, 2015. They have a history of playing spoiler over the years.

I would add that Brian Shoop is probably the most underrated coach in CUSA (him or Jason Marshall at UTSA). UAB might be the toughest job in the league other than Marshall.

First pitch from Birmingham is at 6:30.

I’m assuming we’ll have a 1st baseman and that this lineup is just a mistake.

Sandlin walks a guy and hits a guy in the 1st. Duggan says there's something unique about the mound at UAB and that Sandlin is trying to adjust to it.

Watching the video feed and uab announcer says Wallner is our best hitter. After the HR by Reynolds in the 1st Reynolds now is tied in HR and RBI with Wallner but Reynolds has a .389 to .361 prior to game lead in average

Wallner is the better pro prospect by far. But Reynolds is having the better season. Leads the team in average, OBP, and slugging %.

RE: Baseball at UAB
Sandlin again proving he is the GOAT

Sandlin now has gone 29 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run and has allowed just 1 unearned run during this streak after the 6th inning now complete.

His ERA coming into tonight was 1.00 so for the time being it is now below 1.00.

Rice - 8 innings with 1 unearned run
WKU - 1 inning with no runs (left game after 1st with injury)
MT - 5 shutout innings
ODU - 9 inning shutout
UAB - 6 innings so far shutout

Hoard is awful.

However, I will say that Bowen has regressed quite a bit from last year.
