They’re literally building this thing across the street from the SEC headquarters. I’m not sure if it’ll ever host an Iron Bowl, but it will eventually serve as a home for some sort of SEC event.

They'll have to charge twice-triple the ticket prices if the Iron Bowl were ever to be hosted at the new stadium. 55K vs 100K seats. You're right though about a possible new SEC event.

Top Golf complex next door and a revitalized downtown area that has been completely renovated with bars and high end restaurants including the renovated Tutwiler Hotel and Redmont Hotel with a great rooftop bar. All within about 6 blocks. The Westin and Sheraton adjoin the stadium property. Stay there and walk across the street to the game.
My brother runs the BJCC so I will offer some inside info for visits.
We need to schedule UAB for a home and Home. Great trip within driving distance
By the way downtown has completely changed in the last two to three years.

Why? Our OOC schedule is already watered down enough (with exception of a few P5 teams). With that being said, the Birmingham bowl with the new stadium should make for a better experience than in the past.

The city puts up $3M per year for 30 years, I think.

$3M a year and they get a new stadium. $3M a year and we got (rid of) Tubby. 03-banghead

$612 (student activity fee @ The University of Memphis) x 20,000 students = $12,240,000 x 2 semesters per year = $24,280,000.

They would be a much better opponent than many of the teams we are playing. Next year it's Mercer, GA State or South Alabama. Pick any of those to replace and you can drive there in 3 1/2 hours. UAB put out a pretty decent product with a crap stadium. Now they have an outstanding practice facility and will have a new stadium to go with it.

The last thing we need to do is lend them legitimacy by acknowledging they are a worthy opponent. Maybe give them a 3 for 1. Arky State as well.
