UTSA is going to be very good, they return a couple core guys. I don't know, if we lose Elmore we're not going to be super awesome.
RE: GAMEDAY: Marshall vs. West Virginia in the Round of 32
As far as the West Virginia game, I think we should have seen it coming as Marshall fans. It was an amazing run, and I'm very proud of our team in our conference.
But man, West Virginia played their game of the season. And I don't mean that from a perspective of this was their best win, by no means. I'm saying in terms of everything that they were effectively trying to do they accomplished.
I know they are press Virginia, but that was working. I think that will be our weak spot if we run with the same team next year.
RE: GAMEDAY: Marshall vs. West Virginia in the Round of 32
Count me as disappointed in the loss, there appeared to be no plan B. They exposed our weaknesses, and when we cleared the bench at the end of the game there did not appear to be one player on the floor for Marshall capable of playing D2 basketball. It was a very good year, but last night was not a good representation of our program and we certainly did not do a good job of representing the conference.

Am I disappointed in this loss, no. To those outside the program thought this was a rebuilding year as we lost 4 starters and over 4,000 points in Ryan Taylor, Austin Loop, Stevie Browning and Terrence Thompson. So maybe it was a rebuilding year. But those who went to practice in late June and July seen the talent this team actually showed during the year.
We have come a long way in the 4 years we hired Dan D'Antoni. The hire was ridiculed by many from college basketball pundits to other fans to even about 50-60% of our own fans. D'Antoni was the 2nd to last hire in 2014 and that had him behind the 8 ball in recruiting. Both James Kelly and Stevie Browning did set out Dan's 1st year.
Marshall has improved each of D'Antoni's 4 years, from 11-21, 17-16, 20-15, 25-11. And if everyone integral stays I think we can win more than 25 next year.
Marshall only loses Ot Elmore and Millin Mijovic as seniors this year. There are a few others I don't expect to return. We have 2 underclassmen expected to graduate and most likely move on either as a grad transfer or moving down to DII. Also JuCo Dani Koljanin has informed Dan he doesn't plan on coming back next year.
My guess for a starting line up for the 1st game of 18-19:
SG CJ Burks
SF Jannson Williams
PG Jon Elmore
PG/SG Jarrod West
PF Ajdin Penava
Bench
Darius George
Rondale Watson
Phil Bledsoe
Incoming:
Iran Bennett
Jeremy Dillon
Cam Brooks-Harris
Levi Cook (RS Soph TR DePaul)
Dan is also after a SG from Columbus, OH and we have a 6'4 walk on SG DeAundra Murphy who avg 24 points and 7 rebounds during his HS career. Depending on who stays and who leaves I expect 2 maybe 3 new players before next year.
Just about everyone from Marshall is goo gooing over Bennett. I don’t know his whole situation, but I have 2 questions...
1. Do you all think he will make it to the scorer’s table next year?
2. How does someone that big fit in to the DD system?
RE: GAMEDAY: Marshall vs. West Virginia in the Round of 32
Bennett is a big question mark IHMO. He currently has a foot injury and his weight has gone back up to the 360 range. Most people attending practice think he needs to get his weight down to the 290 range to be able to contribute any minutes in Danny's system. Bennett's weight has always been an issue even at Hargrave. Cook has a shoulder injury and is not able to workout at the moment and no one seems to know when he will be able to play. I was surprised by his lack of production at DePaul. The situation with both is unsettled at the moment.

RE: GAMEDAY: Marshall vs. West Virginia in the Round of 32
Extremely disappointing. However, they were just better. Period.
1. Elmore looked like a D2 player (Had more turnovers than the local bakery)
2. Couldn't throw the ball in the Pacific Ocean
3. Flat out played scared
4. Couldn't handle the defensive pressure
5. Had NO Plan B
6. Ball watched and didn't attempt to block anyone out.

That's because we usually turned the damned ball over before we could get anything going.

Good job Marshall and great finish to the season. I suspect you all will be picked as a favorite next year. Enjoy the ride with the target on YOUR BACK!

From what Ive been told Bennett never got above the 330 he was at when he was at Hargrave, he had came down to 305 when he got to Marshall in July 17. He has already proved he can drop weight and he has about 7 months to drop down again. The team DR said he should be good at 295-310 and I think he could run in Dan's system at that.
As far as Cook is concerned he only played 232 mins at DePaul last year. Its kinda the same situation for Watson at Wake. Cook wanted to come to Marshall out of HS. Dan wouldn't take him, there was something he didn't like. So something must have changed for Dan to accept him as a transfer.
Unless its absolutely necessary to have him next year I think Cam Brooks-Harris red shirts. He is said to be a hybrid of Jannson Williams and Darius George. He is 6'7 and 180 pounds. He needs to put on at least 25-30 pounds of muscle tone.

ODU has two losses; Brandan Stith and Randy Haynes so I think they will be pretty good next year. Potentially really good if they find a good grad transfer big man. We lost 2 forwards; Kah and McClinton before the season started and it kept us slightly thin upfront.
I expect Marshall will be the favorite despite the loss of Ot Elmore, but I don't think ODU is too far behind.

Yep. It ain't easy getting everyone's best shot every time out.
Marshall will get to experience that full bore next year.

I see what you did there, and here's a +2 for it.
I am a big fan of guys that look worse than me playing D1 college ball. Does he not run around in practice....at all?
