Yep. Wow.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I wasn't pulling for the Coogs, but I was impressed by their performance. Michigan is one of the best teams in the country.
Beilein is an excellent coach too. He has changed Michigan's presence on the court over the course of his tenure. He tends to recruit guys that will fit his style (as opposed to going after lots of one-and-dones, which he could do), and he wins with them.

I would trade Rice's season for UH's, so let's not mock them too much...

I would.. except without selling our soul to the devil like they did. That said, we hired Greenspan ... so not like we have a lot of moral pooh-pooh authority.
But from a pure performance standpoint - great season for them.

But omg, if those bozos had won, there would be a whole week of "we're back, just like is our legacy" blah blah. Barf and double barf. Well they have won one more game in the ncaas than we have in 34 years. A bit similar to one of my favorite stats that the Texans have won three times more playoff games than Dallas in the last 25 years.

I don't feel good talking about 'coogin it' (cooging it - what is the proper spelling?) when Rice has so many issues of its own to deal with. They had a good team this year with a rough ending. I would have put a 2017-18 Rice squad with Koulechov and Evans up against what UH fielded this year. But they had their senior stars return, and Rice's guys left. Until that latter dynamic ends, no reason to gloat IMO.

I don't think we can poke fun here. They spent the year playing in another gym while theirs was being renovated and made the second round of the dance. How was our season away from Tudor again?

I could have my foot in a bear trap and be covered in fire ants and still enjoy UH "coogin' it".

I have to say, I agree with mrbig.
We need to save our own sinking ship before we make fun of the superficial rust on their ship.

There was that brief time in the 2000s that you could have considered Rice and UH athletics to be contemporaries as we traded victories in football, MBB, baseball. Now they are a solid 1-2 clicks above us across the board and actively widening that gap. Obviously the academic mission of the two universities continues to be wide apart, but they have left us in the dust in a very short period of time when it comes to athletics.

Heck, most of our seasons AT Tudor left a lot to be desired, let alone the one away.

Or even superior to those clowns. Why the gulf that seems to be ever expanding ? One word-neglect. While Tillman and Khator have pushed hard after watching TCU, Leebron and the BOT have feigned support while results have fallen to an all time low (particularly given our "competition") and correspondingly support has dwindled away.

I don't think the leadership is feigning support... based on their actions, some seem to be fundamentalist zealots on their chosen candidates and agenda and impervious to empirical evidence to the contrary.
The whole "unprecedented success" business was a self-pleasuring pat on the back. The same way that Eddie Lampert probably thinks he is doing a tremendous job at Sears or Smisek thought/acted at United.
