I’m happy for Porter! He’s a good coach who has the right combination of talent to win. I was always entertained by his teams here. Good ball movement and good shooting. I love their freshman center, he’s old school. You could put him in a game in 1958 and he’d fit in great!

Chris Beard in the Sweet Sixteen! Two former Little Rock coaches make it!

I am guessing Florida believes that Porter can coach. Loyola beat them in Florida during the season, and now the Ramblers are in the Sweet 16, and Florida is out.

I wonder if Porter will nab a power conference job out of this (if he even wants to).

Now that is a very interesting question. Porter is a Catholic at a Catholic University in a conference where he played college ball (Creighton), and in the State he grew up in. Not to mention being in a city with almost unlimited recruiting possibilities.

Loyola is currently the toast of Chicago, and since DePaul seems destined to never pull out of its funk, the top Catholic job in town. And Northwestern, although not Catholic, is one of the toughest jobs in America having to compete in the Big 10.

Porter might have to seriously ask himself, "Why would I want to leave?" Too many coaches have found out the hard way that the lure of mega bucks isn't always what is the best move.

Given the ethics situation in the big conferences...he has good reason to avoid them.

And Loyola has already indicated he's going to get a very hefty raise. If he's able to get close to a Million a year, playing in a league where right now they are the big dog, and close to where he grew up. He might honestly consider taking a chance at staying.

And his run isn't done either. With Cincy going down today, he's suddenly playing Nevada for the right to go the Elite 8, where they would get a shot at Kentucky for the right to go to the Final Four, which would be a dream situation for most coaches at that level.

I was not surprised that Loyola won two games, given their season and their coach. You would logically expect them to lose at this point. However, I wouldn't count Porter out until he is out.

No doubt Porter will be making enough money that he will be set up for life if he has any sense at all. And it is not like Loyola does not have any history, since they do have a national championship back there in their past. And the Valley is basketball country. If Porter is where he wants to be, he ought to stay there.

I just enjoy watching a team that plays good basketball, and Porter's team usually play good basketball.

With 9:11 left, Loyola is shooting 58.5% from the field. They just don't take many bad shots. And their big guys is a very nice-looking freshman center.
