I wrestled in high school. It is a great sport, for athletes, and fans! It has really been coming on in high school sports in Arkansas.

Out of State. Wrestling didn't exist in Arkansas High School athletics back in the 1960s!

I think he's talking what conference would the Trojans compete in. My guess would be the Big 12 given member schools are closer than those in the SoCon.

From the press release:
"This is exciting news for the university as we continue to elevate and grow our athletics program and find opportunities for enrollment growth," said Rogerson. "Our student-athletes as a group have the highest Division I graduation success rate in the state, so we're confident this program will bring in additional students with high GPAs and success in the classroom."

Rogerson sees a potential to attract student athletes from all over the state, particularly those from the private prep schools like PA, CAC, and Catholic. Huge coup for the university and athletic GPA. Wrestling is a new sport in the AAA, dont recall it existing 20 yeasrs ago.

According to Chasse's tweet looks like Greg Hatcher is funding it.

We will have the only d1 program in the state. Texas doesn't have a d1 program I don't think.

Swimming and diving competes in the Mo Valley, but I do not see wrestling listed among their sports.

There are no Wrestling Division I conferences out there that are in our immediate area. With that in mind, the Southern Conference would seem to me to be the way to go for several reasons.

1) The Southern Conference is the only one with another SBC member- App State.
2) The Universities in the Southern Conference are much more like Little Rock in athletic budgets, etc.
3) All of the Division I Wrestling conferences are spread out, especially the Big 12, but the Southern Conference is by far the most compact.

Better check out who is in the Big 12 wrestling conference. It stretches from Utah, Colorado, and the Dakotas, all the way to West Virginia. Only Ok State and Oklahoma are reasonably close, and not much different in distance than SIUE and Chattanooga in the Southern.
