I don't understand how it's a NCAA violation? DBO vs AC?
It became an easy way to hire non-basketball people to get a player. You aren't going to waste one of your 3 AC spots on someone who can't do the job.
Saul and Pooh say otherwise
Well, you got me there.

He quietly earned his degree in 2003 while he was still in the NBA.

Madlock is the #2 assistant so, it stands to reason that #1 will also have lots of experience maybe more. With that I can see Miller at #3.

Penny on filling staff on J&J...
Will take time filling staff. Should complete after Final Four.
Could have one assistant with zero college experience - NBA guy or whatever (Miller, Faragi ?).
Has had contact with guys who are current coaches just eliminated from the NCAA tourney, other college AC's, lots of NBA guys.
Has conducted a lot of interviews already, with more ongoing.
Said he would like Shabazz on staff, but he & Shabazz will work it out over time.
Sounds to me like he wants an experienced college guy as #1, and an NBA guy as #3.

Hope this means what I think it means. Miller would be a great coach and recruiter imo.

H e loves living in Memphis. His son goes to school with mine. Easier transition for them if he stays here.

Yep and he was saying on an interview just the other day that he wants his kids growing up in Memphis.

I think he'd like to be on staff here, but he isn't going to push Penny into it.
Just the feel I've gotten from his and others interviews the last couple weeks.

I think he's already on staff but can do more recruiting while not being "officially hired."

I just read where Mike's brother Ryan is the popular choice to be the next head coach of South Dakota. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike is waiting to see what transpires with that before he commits to anything.

He isn't leaving Memphis if he can help it. I don't think SD will be the place he leaves.

Yet he didn't move to South Dakota. He has said time and time and time and time again he loves Memphis and he wants his kids to grow up in Memphis. He said he wants to retire as a Grizzly. Not once, ever has he mentioned how he wants to go to South Dakota.
