Still seems unlikely. No recent rumors, plus he and the staff have been hitting the recruiting trail looking for replacement PGs.

I’m glad he didn’t cut his nose off to spite his face for personal reasons or just to please his fan base.

Lomax was almost a son to Penny. Penny is now the Head Coach of a college program.

I can’t think of one who would not have released what was( in effect ) the Head Coach's Son.

It just seems logical.

Exactly right Snow. Lomax was going to play for Penny. Marshall was either going to punish Lomax or not. The outcome seemed pretty obvious.

As part of the decision to release Lomax, people are mostly considering the guardian angle and the optics of not releasing him. Few are talking about the fact that Penny knew he was going to face criticism for sending Lomax to WSU in the first place. Penny trusted Marshall to send Lomax, who lives with him away, away from Penny's hometown and away from Penny's home team.

Sure, Penny as a coach factors into it, but what Penny did BEFORE becoming coach had to have been seen as huge by Marshall. It would have looked bad if he didn't release him, but more than anything, it would be a dick move toward Penny after all the trust Penny had in Marshall to send Lomax there.

The bottom line is that Penny sent Lomax away from where both of them are from and the house they both live in to play for Marshall. There is no way that he could morally and ethically not grant the release.

I'm not sure it was all Penny 'sending Lomax away'. I'm sure the young man had some input on where he wanted to attend college. However, it does speak volumes that Lomax wasn't committed to Memphis in the first place from the previous staff.

Like I say, y'all keep being geniuses and I'll keep being right.

Dude, many of us were right on this way before you checked-in on the matter.

It is fun looking back on it now. Very rarely do we have the satisfaction of a debate resolving itself this quickly and clearly right before our eyes. And to have it break in our favor. Icing on a good cake day.

Umm, I was banned?

Thanks for playing.

Wha? I'm talking about this thread. I don't believe you were banned when this thread began. All's I'm saying is there were MANY of us who were on record in this thread about A-Lo getting released before you weighed in with a post. So you calling out all us "geniuses" is lightweight stuff.

But it's all good. Just be more careful with your self promotion.

How about no?

You know Myreon Jones, who just de-committed, is on Wichita State's radar.

I hope we still get him if Penny thinks he has a place, but I sincerely hope if not, the first thing Penny says after shooting the breeze on that call is something to the effect that: "If you can't play for Memphis, did you see what a solid Marshall did? He also got Ron Baker - RON BAKER - into the league. If you aren't coming here, you should be a Shocker.'

That would be nice.

Again, if Jones wants to be here and Penny wants him, let's do it.

But it would be nice if we could help our friends of the corn for doing us a solid.

No doubt, but I also have no doubt that if Marshall imagined for a minute a recruit born and bred in Wichita living with his coach, a legend also born and bred in Wichita going to Memphis...Marshall understood the impact of the decision and he also understood how much trust both Penny and Lomax were putting in him.

This was the opposite of a clear cut case of a kid trying to back out of a commitment for the hell of it, or a coach holding a recruit to his commitment. There was a much more important dynamic surrounding Lomax going to WSU than is typical of most decisions.

Napier and Boatright take time out from polishing their rings to say hello.

Well, they were both over 5'10", probably not by much, but big difference between 5'11 and 5'7" or 5'8".

That said, if either of them is Shabazz Napier, sign me up, dude was and still is a stud. Wish the Grizz could land that dude.

They were listed 5-10 and 6-1 out of HS. Harris and Lomax are listed 5-9 and 5-11. So, yeah, UConn had them but not by much.

College basketball is still a guard's game. If you have quickness and can shoot, doesn't matter as much your height.

I agree to a large extent, but I also would much prefer a team with bigger / longer guards if most everything else is equal. I really think a team with Lomax and Harris on the floor at the same time is going to struggle at the defensive end. Size has a way of covering up mistakes defensively. Lack of size has a way of magnifying mistakes defensively.

Then there is the other matter of 2 guys who both envision themselves as team leader / point guards and how they would mesh.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Given a choice, I'd lean toward Harris, who I know can flat fill it up from 3, but ALo is already on board so if Harris signs, it's going to be with the knowledge that he's going to likely be spending a lot of time off the ball.

Both are clearly "Memphis good" so I'm on board and you have to try to make it work if Harris is willing to sign.

At this point, I just want to get some talent. I've heard rumors about Wiseman reclassifying. If that happens and he signs with Memphis, sheesh, well, Penny will have just instantly Built A Monster.

BAM.
