C. Johnson 6th Year Granted
Per a story on JMUSports.com, Cardon Johnson has been granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA.

http://www.jmusports.com/news/2018/3/15/...ility.aspx

Glad to see that Cardon will be able to play one more year. Considering all the hard work he has done to overcome 2 different achilles injuries I hope this upcoming year is injury free and that he has the sort of year we ll know he is capable of!!!

Terrific news. Glad it's official. We need to move to the wishbone so we can get all these backs on the field at the same time. :>)

I really hope Cardon has the full and productive season he deserves. I mentioned his injury to my wife last year (she's a physical therapist) and she thinks that unless he tried a different procedure than last time (ie- specialists) his odds may not be good for keeping things attached. Hope he's had some world-class medical staff helping him with this.

As much as I like the other guys in our backfield, I hope it's Cardon that leads us to another championship.

I believe he also had a serious injury his senior year in high school- a knee if I recall. So this is three serious injuries he has battled. It would be nice to see him reap the rewards of his hard work and sticktuitiveness and have a monster final campaign.

Isn't this his third Achilles injury?

RE: C. Johnson 6th Year Granted
Okay, I asked my wife again about this. Hard for her to say for sure without knowing any history/specifics (and I can't recall what Cardon did to which leg) but in general she said a rupture (the tendon separating from the heal bone) has a much better chance of recovery than a tear (the tendon separating within itself or where it connects to the calf muscle). There are also varying degrees of tear/separation but of the serious types an "ideal" injury would be a total separation of the tendon from the heel bone so a "simple" "clean" repair can be done.

She also said that just like ACLs, it's common to injure one side when you've already injured the other, due to the tendency to favor/over develop the non-injured side. So hopefully whatever his injuries were, both legs are repaired equally as well and he's primed to run rampant all the way to a natty.

We only have 2 Achilles tendons.

You can injure one twice.

Yes, he injured one in 2014, the surgery on that went well and hasn't had problems since. He has had this current one injured twice, the second injury may be because the surgery wasn't 100%, so there's hope this one will be better off.

Any guesses on when Cardon will be seeing the field?

Todays JMU Rivals article on Johnson sounds very promising and his rehab is going extremely well. I'll be shocked if he isn't playing in the opener.
Per article (quote from Houston):
“He has been tracking to be ready to go,” Houston said. “His recovery has been outstanding. It’s been much better than the previous recovery so they feel like he’ll be very healthy and make it through the year. They don’t anticipate any issues with the repair, so we’re really excited, and I’m ready to see him back out there in pads.

I really hope he can stay healthy this season. I feel for Cardon and I'm sure this has been tough. I just want all this to be worth it for him. He deserves it.
