Dawgs win first game of the Saturday double header vs Rice, 6-4.

After last night's win and this win, Tech will be going for the sweep 30 minutes later.

Going to have to dig ourselves out of a hole again this season.

Though I hear Addison Moss is close to returning so that should help.

Our pitching was atrocious this weekend.

LA Tech once again did a great job reloading with JuCos. Props to Burroughs.

We could use a Brock Holt or five right now.

Credit to Tech, now 9-3 vs. Rice in the last three years.

Far cry from the despondent team I saw come to Houston in 2015.

Sucks being 9-13... Unfortunately his cheerleaders have outsized influence and say all is right after we get one midweek win against TCU.

Also, perhaps if we get a new coach they won't schedule a ridiculous amount of games in such a short period of time. They don't help the RPI if you lose them/tire out your staff in the process.

UTSA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in top 6 but USM gets 2 in 6th, 1 in 7th and 1 in the 8th to take a 4-3 lead headed to top 9. Matt Wallner in to try and close it out.

USM wins 4-3 and takes a 2-0 series lead. UTSA got a 2 out single then the next batter hit what appeared to be a go ahead 2 run HR but was caught at the left centerfield wall.

The Saturday DH win gives USM a 6 game win streak, 10-1 at home and 14-4 on the season.

Going for the sweep Sunday morning at 10:00 am weather permitting but it’s not looking promising as rain chances are 50% or greater from 10 am throughout the rest of the day

RE: conference baseball opening weekend matchups
Game 3 between USM and UTSA appears will be a rainout which could be a good thing today for us. We made 3 errors in the first and UTSA took a 4-0 lead. USM got 1 back on a Luke Reynolds HR but then the rains came in the top of 2. The radar and forecast doesn’t appear promising so a good possibility this game will not resume. Game was originally scheduled for 1 pm but was moved to 10 am to try and complete before the rains came but it still didn’t work.

The numbers on Sandlin at this point:
3-0 record, 1.32 ERA, 34 IP, 55 K, 3 BB, .180 opponent BA, and no wild pitches (which is pretty crazy given the K numbers).

Obviously, he won’t maintain that...but pretty amazing to have that line through five starts.

Unfortunately, there are pretty much nothing but questions after Sandlin. At this point, Tech would be my favorite to win it. There are just too many holes in our pitching staff for me to say that we are. If the rotation stabilizes and we can find one or two consistent arms out of the pen, this team will be dominant in conference play. But that is a big if right now.

In those 5 starts (34 innings) he’s only allowed 3 extra base hits....2 doubles and 1 HR.

No. But we’ve rarely had a need for it. This is the first time we’ve had a CUSA home game cancelled in at least 15 years according to past USM schedules on our athletic website that dates back to the 2004 season. Ironically the last time and only time we had a CUSA game cancelled since 2004 was during the 2015 season and it was at La Tech.

no way our game today should have been cancelled.....our outfield drains just fine....

we could've played late fri. or started today's game at 7 or 8 a.m.....

there's a thread on our local board for those that are curious to see how much crap some of our locals gave me arguing how we screwed this pooch....

btw, kudos and 04-cheers to Tech completing the sweep.....you guys are going to be a heavy load to handle....

Stink, love ya man, but it never stopped raining once it started and UTSA had a deadline to leave...nothing to do with the field.

most series I'd rather just have one game on Friday and use Saturday as a DH and leave Sunday for everyone to rest
