Potential Game Preview: Nevada/Texas
I struggled with this starting this thread. Deleted it twice, then ultimately decided "What the hell?"...

I enjoyed the talk on the Georgia St preview thread, and I'm afraid there won't be enough time to discuss our potential match-up with either Nevada or Texas, so what's everyone think?

Nevada
Kenpom: 24
Off: 11
Def: 105

Texas
Kenpom: 38
Off: 96
Def: 10

Nevada seems comparable to Wichita State (which scares me), although they don't seem to have a big like WSU's Shaq Morris.

Texas has defensive numbers comparable to UCF but a top 100 offense. They play closer to UC's tempo/pace as well.

ASSUMING we take care of business on Friday, who you got?

RE: Potential Game Preview: Nevada/Texas
interesting match up O vs D.
Doesn't Texas have a 7footer? Will be interesting to see how it affects Nevada's top 10 offense for sure.

Neither team is really great but this should be a good game.

If Nevada has trouble scoring on Texas and Texas can dictate tempo, Texas may take it.

I have two brackets...Nevada winning in one and Texas in the other.

I thought that I read that Texas' stud player was injured for part of the season but is now back. If so, the team we (might) play may be better than its record/seed.

He missed a whole three games.

Texas sucks at 3p shooting and free throws.

they played good teams fairly tough like Kansas West Virginia Michigan and Gonzaga. And I believe they did beat West Virginia and Texas Christian so they arent chopped liver but at the end of the day they were under .500 in the big 12 and lost most of their really big games.

They are what their record says they are.

Not overly concerned.

RE: Potential Game Preview: Nevada/Texas
I think playing Texas will be similar to playing UCF with Fall in the middle. As long as we don't turn in a 4 for 28 3pt effort, we will most likely beat them in a lower scoring grind game.

I'm actually more worried about playing Nevada. That team can light it up and in a game like that if we aren't hitting (like in the AAC tourney) it could be a long one for us.

Point is, we could still most likely beat Texas if our offense disappears. I don't think we could be Nevada if our offense disappears.

Of course, Nevada's D isn't good so the likelihood of our offense sucking vs them is low.

Look bottom line, we are way better than either team and the 2 seed. NO reason to lose to either.

I think Texas would be a great matchup for us. I think Nevada is a team we should beat, but is the kind of scary offensive team that can get hot and steal one.

My feeling exactly. Teams that can really score have long been UC's nemesis in postseason play. I think I'd prefer an old school Big East grinder against Texas. My recollection is that center for Texas will be back but that it was a toe injury. Those typically are slow healing so while he says he'll play he certainly may not be as mobile or effective as he was earlier this year. He's pretty special though.

I believe Texas also has another key player out with illness and one sitting because of the FBI probe. On the other hand, Nevada got blasted in its conference tournament so trying to project an advantageous next opponent can be mind numbing. For our 'Cats--just keep winning so we can exhale Sunday night knowing they've lived to fight another weekend.

Both Texas and Nevada are capable of beating UC, but I'm hopeful that our guys are on a mission and will find a way against either of these opponents.

RE: Potential Game Preview: Nevada/Texas
I'm not sure who I'd prefer to play out of TX/NV. Both have some qualities that could give UC some real fits. On paper Nevada definitely has some real nice talent. Several big-time transfers have really played well for them. They do have insane offensive numbers, but I wonder if anyone in that league is good at defending outside of SDSU who beat them twice.

We do have one common opponent, Wyoming even though I don't like to read too much into that stuff. Nevada split with them. Beat them by 9 at home and lost by 1 on the road.

All top 100 players on Texas. Only player that plays that wasnt top in country was a Barnes recruit. WE would be UNDERDOGS big time in this game...

They would be run table in our league. They have more top 100 players than the aac does combined. I DON'T WANT PLAY THEM AT ALL!!!

BC01, Andrew Jones is not playing. He was diagnosed with Leukemia back.in January.

Texas has some talent and length, and Bamba is a monster. They don't play with a lot of depth and don't shoot very good. I could see this a low.scoring game, but UC probably wins by 5 or 10 points. I think Nevada clips them though.
