OT - Radford wins NCAA opener
Radford defeats LIU in the opening game of the NCAA Tournament. Former ODU player Travis Fields had another strong game off the bench for the Highlanders going 3-3 on his 3 point attempts following on the heels of his 4-4 shooting on 3 pointers in the conference championship game. Radford advances to meet one of the #1 seeds Villanova.

Edit: Travis is getting a lot of post game mention from the TV commentators, and finished with 13 points - 10 in the second half - on 5 of 6 shooting overall.

Good for him. That’s great. Radford coach has done a really good job w that program. Hopefully they can hang in there with Villanova

Watched 2nd half of game. Travis looked really good. Played with confidence. I also remember one really good assist he had late in the game to extend a tenuous lead.

A lot of folks said Fields was a winner, gamer, big game player, whatever you want to call it. I see why now. The kid steps up in big games for sure. Happy for him and Radford.

Nobody beats Villanova, the way that we like to beat Villlanova

"It was a lot of laying the bricks for seven years, laying the foundation," head coach Mike Jones said on the truTV broadcast following the victory. "A lot of people put in a lot of blood, sweat and tears, a lot of dedication and hard work."

How was Fields eligible to play this season?

I'm happy for him though. That was probably a fun game for them and their fans.

He wasn't on a scholarship with us when he played

That I knew. I just didn't know that if you aren't on scholarship you can transfer without sitting a year.

RE: OT - Radford wins NCAA opener
I think being a 16 seed in the play in game is way better than being a 15 seed. The whole nation gets to watch your game in prime time as a bottom seed. When you're a 15 you get stuck playing a game you are just a likely to lose, only in the middle of the day, regionally broadcast with many other game choices available. Good for Radford making the most of the opportunity. I wouldnt be surprised if they can parlay this into competing with the CAA and ODU for some recruits now.

Get out of here. Our foundation was laid quite some time ago.
