RE: City official opposes Temple stadium
Does Temple have any alternate sites in mind to build a football stadium? Perhaps they should consider the area near the football practice field but on the other side of the railroad tracks. There are many vacant lots and abandoned row homes back there.

RE: City official opposes Temple stadium
Just found out today that Temple will be moving its Spring Game from the football practice facility to the new soccer stadium complex. Yep, Temple opened a new and large soccer and field hockey complex a block from campus with very little protest. In the process Temple demolished a huge abandoned high school that they paid $7 mil for. Took another 15 mil to create the fields. There was only about a two or three weeks protest over that project. Temple promised a union job training site to get city officials to sign off.

The good news here is that the soccer complex looks like it can hold two or three times the crowd of the football practice site. I am sure we can get a crowd of 4k or more for the Spring Game. I heard that USF moved their Spring Game last season.

Football belongs on main campus ..

Temple has not attempted to negotiate a long term lease because they want to build a stadium and use the fabricated figures presented by its since fired President to provide that rationale.

Temple isnt building a single extra parking space to accommodate 30,000 people on campus (for the 1st game anyway.) There are 11,000 dedicated parking spaces for football at the Linc. Temple's plans call for 0 and a free for all for available parking not used by students, employees and residents currently.

If Temple and city leaders cant resolve a lease playing in a vacant stadium on saturdays built in part with taxpayer monies, they should all be led to the top of City Hall and thrown off William Penn's hat......but they dont want to do that. There's some rubles to made by developers, pols and Temple's BoT's so you just continue to play the role of village idiot and accept Yulman II will be a great success at 15th and Norris.

Temple paid $15 million up front + $1million annual rent + game day expenses. The total cost has in fact been close to $3 million per year. Temple also had to pay in advance to get the two one year options. The next lease isn’t going to be for less money either.

As much as I’d like the city and Temple to work out a better deal it’s simply not feasible. Neither the city or state have a legal means to compel Lurie to offer a better deal. Lurie doesn’t want Temple as a tenant and has every reason to use the next lease to incentivize Temple to look for other options. Kenney tried using the bully pulpit to get a better deal and the Eagles effectively laughed at him.

I have concerns about the stadium too, particularly that they’re doing this on the cheap, but I’m certain they aren’t going to get anything other than a crap deal at the Linc.

Nope. He’s a passionate albeit caustic Temple fan. Whether you agree with him or not, Temple could use more people as passionate about Temple athletics as he is.

Yeah, he seems like a hell of a fan and an overall pleasure as a person.

I'll defer to you because you know the cast of characters here better than I. I only occasionally peruse this board, now I remember why.

@PhillyBrian, weren't you the guy who told Bill Bradshaw that Temple should play Notre Dame? I'm sure that never came up until you suggested it.

And I would like more informed Temple fans. Temple didnt pay anything up front. They have been paying 1 million + operating expenses since Day 1. Its an absolute brilliant deal to have no where to go, with no conference and about 3,000 people willing to buy tickets and move into a half billion dollar stadium as they did in 2003. Still, its not good enough for this gang

Temple has been playing in that stadium since....for 1 million a year. Operating costs have gone up because more people are coming to games.

Everyday I read how Jeffrey Lurie is raping Temple....and its complete bullsh!t.

Everyday I read how Lurie wants Temple out....yet he extended them 2 one year leases at same cost to get their act together and Temple's leadership was run off in 15 minutes by a couple grandmoms yelling at them

every single day huh?

Yulman is fine - the only real issue is that jinky visitor side and much too low press box. they probably made the club area too nice also. seems every game all you hear is people stay inside and dont actually come to their seats to watch the game. general public parking is tough too and that probably keeps some casuals away. its light years better than playing in the dome though, Tulane had to make that move

What stadium is that ?

I would love to bring a bunch of Nawlins folks to the Linc and ask them if they would prefer to come there for games or Yulman. Nothing against Yulman, really, Ive been there twice. The main issue is our idiots want to vacate the Linc at 1 million a year to build a Yulman for 130 million.

Interesting fact. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie put 125 million of his own money into upgrades a few years ago. A lion's share of money went into video technology throughout the facility. Conversely, Temple wants to spend the same amount to build the whole god d$&m thing....with the full endorsement of many of Temple's inexperienced, uninformed idiots.

Yes because so many successful programs play in an NFL stadium not near campus.

I always love ad hominem attacks they clearly show who has the stronger argument. Hint it's not the person using them.

You sir are done. Generally you appear to have nothing positive to contribute. Have a good day.
