FCC wanted to put a full size soccer field in place. UC worked with them on it as part of their arrangement.

Right - but it seems like much of the 'expanded' area is blocked by the video boards. Unless they added more area than they needed?

Exactly. It's all about $$$$(ad revenue), not a non regulation field size or player safety.

RE: FCC: the saga continues
Seems FC Cincinnati has done everything within its power to meet the demands of MLS. Yet here they sit, with no announcement--no certainty of a franchise. Is MLS engaged in an elaborate stall tactic to allow Sacramento to secure funding and be anointed with a major league team?
Still puzzled by the "either/or" notion. If Sacramento is deserving give them a franchise. If Cincinnati is deserving (and has demonstrated the popularity of the sport in this major market), MLS should change its story and say there is a compelling case for expanding beyond their original plan at this time. Heck, MLS has played fast and loose with their own rules and deadlines throughout this expansion drama, why not invite two more major markets to the party and expand the footprint even faster? Their rationale can be that the popularity of the sport is growing even faster than they anticipated and they want to be the acknowledged leader.

Why is it that the MLS wanted a plan in place for the Cincy bid but Nashville still appears to be a cluster (see article below). I think Cincy is being given the run around here. I'm sure MLS had its reasons but it would be hilarious if Cincy has a plan in place and Nashville decides their fairgrounds site is wrong after MLS hurried to give Nashville the bid.

So I hope the MLS happens for Cincinnati, sooner rather than later.
And after they move to that shiny new stadium in the west end with major league ticket and concession prices, do you think any investors would take a shot at putting minor league soccer back in Nippert? Cheap tickets, family deals, and a venue that soccer fans have grown to love in just a few short years.
If it's all about "the experience," Nippert, UC and Uptown have delivered in a big way. And would the Lindners block such a move given their relationship with UC? While I disagree, I've heard a few FC fans suggest they don't want to bring their families to the west end. Again, I think that's nonsense, but young families have certainly grown comfortable with Uptown.

Why not put spring pro FB in Nippert? The AD will still need an additional revenue stream...

FWIW, I was talking to someone in the AD and they felt that even if FCC ends up getting in the MLS, they'd still likely play 3-4 more years at Nippert due the complex logistics of building the thing in the West End vs the other proposed sites.

Watching the game tonight and I see a huge XU ad on the ribbon board. I realize FCC is not UC but there's definitely something that feels wrong seeing Xavier ads at Nippert.

I guess the X marketing folks know a hot property when they see one. Unfortunately for them, that hot property plays before sellout crowds in the heart of UC's beautiful campus.

I've heard that FCC will be announced to the MLS... by the end of THIS month.
Keep in mind that UC will still be enjoying revenue for FCC for a while, and possibly MLS-sized revenue starting as early as next year.

So it’s Tuesday. This is great news and honest I wasn’t sure it would happen.
Hoping they can start in 2019.
If I recall, the lease with UC includes increased payouts if they went to MLS. So hopefully 2, 3 or 4 seasons at nippert will provide some nice added revenue for UC.
PS Nice open cup win last night against a pretty good Pittsburgh team.

Yes the contract does state there will be new terms if the team joins the MLS. As a reference, Atlanta United paid Georgia Tech ~$1M to rent Bobby Dodd Stadium. This included:
$45,000 rent per match (Current deal $5,000)
$2 per ticket sold
split on the net revenues on food and beverage sold during games
$275,000 for locker room accommodations
$350,000 to make changes to the field once the soccer game is played.
The last two items could work out a little differently here since there has already been some changes.

Man, three years ago all we had was an amateur team with 50 people in the stands at (ironically) Stargell Stadium. Now we are on the brink of adding a third big league franchise to our city. Kinda nuts...

Well good for us! It’s kind of a big deal that Cincy gets a team, and gets it now. The next round will be much tougher. There are bigger metros with better dynamics than Cincinnati, and being potentially the only MLS team in the three state region is a big feather in this city’s cap.
While the West End site is not a long term solution, it helped get the city a team. I’m not a huge soccer fan, but this announcement is cause for us to collectively celebrate.
