From what I can gather, they passed on quite the chunk of change for the school. Nearly 10x as much in fact. 7.5 million over 10 years against 700,000 in that same time frame.

You have to think the scary "s" word played a role here. I assume those that made the call have higher aspirations, and a yes vote on anything "stadium" related would be a red flag for their future around those parts.

For that school district to turn down that kind of money is surprising. Especially considering how much less the high end Citirama apartments will be giving them.

From a tax base perspective, a higher amount for 10 years then the big drop FCC wants versus the residual tax receipts to the school district via property tax on 50+ Initial $400-500k homes until the end of time is not the great deal that Lindner’s spinmeisters want to make you believe. Once again these jerks are trying to screw over taxpayers like we are their personal ATM.

Oh, I didn't see where there would be a big drop off, just saw the letter saying they'd pay a consistent amount thereafter the ten years.

I guess we would have to know the consistent amount versus the tax receipts after the ten year tax abatement.

That was part of the offer. It was one of FCC’s primary goals here. They make the initial push and then would not be taxed at anywhere near what the property is worth after that. Everything this group does is with an eye towards tax concessions and putting $$ in its pocket long term when it comes to public coffers.

The 2 million response by the district takes into consideration the residual money that would not be realized for the district years down the road when taxpayers still need to pay for schools to operate.

Part of me thinks they tried to get this done for an offer that would have made them laugh in private in their board room if CPS actually took it...if it didn’t get done to save face after pocketing all of he TIF dollars and incentives Newport is offering they could then tell the public as soon as today that they did everything they could as a good member of the community. It’s perhaps all been a PR game so they don’t look like money grubbing carpetbaggers to the paying customers on the Ohio side of the river.

Welp, CPS gets to keep the land and get zero dollars a year (or, if this Citirama thing ever happens, much less than what FCC was going to offer. To me, CPS overplayed their hand (not surprising when you take all of their other decisions into account). Tell me how this worked out for West End, CPS, or Cincinnati. Lindner family or no, unless they can come back to terms on the West End, this is a net loss if it ends up in Newport.

I hope this decision is brought to light the next time CPS asks for a school levy because they need more funding.

You are not paying attention if that is your gripe.

The community down there largely doesn’t want this and frankly I don’t blame them if it’s their home and where they want to raise their families...they are smart enough to know they’d mostly be displaced before the stadium opened in favor of upscale condos and gentrification by folks who currently are not part of the community in appreciably high numbers.

A lot of the properties have already been bought up and are being sat on in anticipation of the community (and resident) makeover.

I guess I phrased it poorly. Yes, it was a deadline.

Regardless, if they, the school and community, don't want it then I can't blame them. I'll be bummed if it ends up in Oakley though. Really pulling for Newport.

I'll be bummed if it ends up in Oakley too. Don't want to have to deal with the traffic and disruptions and it sounds like people there don't particularly want it either. Newport seems to be the only place that actually wants it, but the Lindners are used to having their way ( see "wedged" baseball stadium on riverfront instead of broadway commons).

Maybe not to your slant. I thought this discussion was about groups that are misusing people's tax money.

RE: FCC: the saga continues
When you file an appeal to lower your property taxes and it is contested, the party on the other side of the table opposing your petition is not the county Auditor. It’s the lawyer for the school district you live in. Do you understand why that is?

If you understand why that is you understand why CPS said no to a 10 year deal in lieu of property taxes for the years after.

Interesting.

*If I'm reading this right, CPS can receive in one year from FCC the same amount they would receive in ten years from these Citirama folks. Which after ten years makes it $7.5 mil vs $700K.

I'm guessing the hastened deadline is due to MLS getting impatient. We'll find out what they say by 5 today though... maybe.

Yep, the stakes just got higher in this poker game when CPS got an ultimatum. But could a CPS board member vote no and walk away from that kind of incremental revenue for the schools? Guess we'll know this afternoon.

Looks like they didnt move forward with the offer. From what I understand they turned down significantly more money than what Citirama will be giving them, as well as a new fully paid for stadium (Stargell, not the FCC stadium) and the funding for soccer programs at 29 CPS schools that currently can't offer soccer to the students.

I'm calling Newport as the official landing spot for FCC.

My money is on FCC staying in Nippert due to no MLS bid. A big song and dance that ends with no change whatsoever.

That was Marge Schott. She said it was a tradition for the Reds to play on the river.

Well she was the owner during the 1996 (I think it was 96’) vote on where to put the stadium but she was banned from baseball until 1998 due to her Adolf Hitler wasn’t always such a bad guy comments.

I figured they’d make an announcement on one of the sites before the season opener today. They must really not want to do the Newport deal if they can avoid it. It’s crazy how long and messy this has played out.

Speaking of the game today, here are the details: https://www.fccincinnati.com/matchday

Can FCC finally beat the Battery? How will this D2 all star roster gel in their first meaningful action together? We'll see tonight at 7!

It seems a lot like they're just used to getting what they want and not taking "no" for an answer.

It’s going to be Oakley if MLS allows that to qualify as urban.

They did not expect CPS to call their bluff, so they have been scrambling behind the scenes to make the west end site work. I expect Cranley will make an announcement about it pretty soon.

RE: FCC: the saga continues
2 games, 2 wins. Both games on the road too, something that was a bit of rarity last year. They only won 4 total games on the road in 2017.

Seemed like a cool atmosphere in Indy this past weekend. The Eleven making the jump from NASL over to the USL is gonna pay off for them I think. They posted their largest crowd ever at 17k, and around 1000 or so FCC supporters made the trip to Lucas Oil as well. Having 3 strong lower division brands in Louisville, Indy, and FCC so close together is really great for the league. Nashville too.

First home game is this weekend, against Louisville no less. Gonna be a fun one!
