new quadrants system
Kind of looking at conferences- lets look at conferences that had a lot of teams in 31-50 range(thus hurt as those games not tier 1 games when at home) and 51-75 range(thus helped as those games now tier 1 games when playing away)

ACC- 2 31-50, 4 51-75
BE- 4 31-50, 1 51-75
B12- 1 31-50, 2 51-75
B10- 0 31-50, 2 51-75
P12- 2 31-50, 4 51-75
SEC- 3 31-50, 1 51-75

folks thought ACC had a bit of luck- and you see why given the breaktown. Similarly, the Big East got dinged pretty good on the seeds- and you see why there as well....

RE: new quadrants system
I do find it interesting that how the Big East teams wound up doing with seeding. Beyond Villanova and Xavier, the rest were relegated to "the stew" (lines 7-10).

Proportionally, the SEC was relegated there, too. 4/6 in the stew for the Big East, 5/8 for SEC...Big XII was spared (3/7), as was the ACC (3/9). Rhodie rounds out the 16th team in that four-line bloc (so, no Big Ten or PAC teams).

Really, you don't want the 7-10 lines in this thing, facing a top line the first weekend. In some respects, you may be better off this year as a play-in team, like the PAC has going for it twice...a 3-seed isn't as scary this year.

Yes, the seeding sets the Big East and SEC up for a lot of second, even first round losses.

Expect a lot of "wow, the SEC and Big East were overrated, got way too many bids" talk this weekend. But really, it's the result of seedings.

In contrast, the B1G got a lot fewer teams in, but they are all seeded very nicely so all will likely go deep in the draw. Probably 3 sweet 16 teams.

the penalty isn't just facing a 1 or 2 seed in rd 2. It's facing them in a de facto road game.
Virginia, UNC in Charlotte
Kansas in Wichita
Purdue in Detroit
Villanova in Pittsburgh

look at what Big East has over the weekend potentially with their non 1 seeds
Creighton vs Virignia in Charlotte
Providence vs UNC in Charlotte
Butler vs Purdue in Detroit
Seton Hall vs Kansas in Wichita

so looking at this- the Big East and Big 12 had 7 of their 13 teams combined in the 7-10 soup. The leagues had 5 teams finishing better than 10-8 and all 5 got top 6 seeds at least. They had 11 teams finishing between 10-8 and 8-10. 8 made the tourney, but only 1 of those 8 teams finished with better than a 7 seed(a 6 seed). The round robin really hurts those 2 leagues in seedings for teams outside the top 2 to maybe 3 places.

In that group, Kansas is protected from Creighton in Wichita, while Purdue is actually punished with Butler (though it's a rematch on a neutral floor). Actually, Arkansas really drew the short straw there...a 10 that close to home is problematic. Butler's got a good path to Villanova, actually. Heck, it's like Tech is punished there, too.
