Yeah, would rather have his bro Ryan.

Since the inception of the RPI Memphis has never lost to a sub-300 RPI team. This year they lost to two. Got blown out by one of them.

Not sure Lynch meets the more recent NCAA requirements of being a D1 strength coach. Penny's guy Shabazz does not either. As of 8/1/15 the NCAA requires that Strength and Conditioning coaches have 1 of 2 Nationally recognized certifications, which neither are registered as having.

So you are in favor of a coach making $3 million with enough talent to play hard and finish 160th in the country.

Got it.

DJ going to Kentucky even knowing Penny will be the coach.

Wiseman will re-classify to '18 and will come to Memphis, but probably won't announce until late summer because he wants to play EYBL this summer.

That was not the worst season of basketball by any means. Watching all that talent from previous years not doing sh*t or more accurately not bothering to really do everything possible was much worse than watching this group of guys give their absolute heart and soul. That was a program culture change that was needed to make any progress back to where we hope to finally be. We had gotten soft and no matter the talent level we were at least tough and gritty this season. That was the start and the hardest part. Now lets see if we can keep it when the dust settles.

Where was the heart and soul against USF and UCF at the forum and ECU on the road. The only team we beat worth a crap was Houston. This team was not good at all. We had one of the weakest schedules in the country.

Don't know about the strength coach requirements, but still heard Lynch is coming to Memphis.

Update is Mincy now leaning towards staying at Florida. Brown and Miller still will be on staff. Memphis floated the Larry Brown rumors to the media last week, and didn't get much push back, so will let Penny have him on staff.

RE: Penny's Staff - Larry Brown, Mike Miller and Jordan Mincy . . .
I've heard Miller was serious - but that it was Ryan.
Brown has legs, too. Not sure in what capacity.
Word is Penny and Tony have had multiple discussions. I haven't heard about Mincy. I would bet it's either one or the other, but not both.
Shaq has to be a red herring.
Guessing others like Keelon, Preston, AA may have staff roles. Only a guess though.

Not true! Wiseman re-classing is highly unlikely...It makes no sense. Wiseman staying in Memphis is key for last year of HS but he will and should stay in 2019 class. Draft purposes..it will cost him money. Penny should make tournament with left over roster add a couple of pieces (shooting and pure Pg) Plus, honor them for the trouble they've gone through...2019 will be top 3 class.

I have no idea what Wiseman will do. The Tigers have always been and will continue to be a long shot, IMO, regardless of who is coach. Maybe if Penny is coach next year, our chances go from .1% to 20%. That's a great improvement - but still a longshot.

However, I'm not following why you think playing college next year instead of HS ball would cost him money in the draft. The other thing is, if Penny leaves for UofM, then where does Wiseman play next year if he stays in HS? Doubt he would hang around this area. TSSAA definitely will not allow him to play next year at a new school. So that creates a problem. He would probably look into IMG or such. But if he can reclassify, why not just move to college instead of moving to a prep school?

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN
Penny Hardaway has hired Travis King and David Bauman of Independent Sports & Entertainment, sources told ESPN. Penny is considered the heavy favorite to replace Tubby Smith at Memphis.

Penny has definitely been working on his staff.

Davell Roby from White Station High (played for Team Penny and for four years at St. Louis) was offered a grad assistant job on Penny's staff about a week ago. I'm told he turned it down because he wants to keep playing somewhere. It seems to me that if Penny is already working on grad assistants, he's already gotten most of it finished.

Yeah '87, I don't get Babbler's point either. The old 'Not true!' with an exclamation point, so we know he's serious, followed by the always solid argument of 'It makes no sense.'

Several points:
* Why does Wiseman stay at East HS for his Senior year if Penny is not there? The only reason Wiseman came to East was because of Penny.
* Wiseman is an excellent student, went to Ensworth for 2 years prior to this year, so we can assume he would have no trouble graduating early.
* Wiseman will not be eligible for the '19 NBA draft anyway, he is too young. I'll cut-and-paste the NBA draft eligibility rules below, but to sum it up, since Wiseman does not turn 19 until 2020, he cannot be in the 2019 draft.
* Wiseman's family moved to Memphis when James transferred to East, and I was told he has a sister who is a Freshman at Memphis.

We have a good chance at Wiseman. Know I'm repeating, but he would not re-classify until last summer. If he re-classifies now, then he can't play EYBL this summer for Team Penny and Todd Day, which he wants to do.

NBA Draft Eligibility:

The player (A) is or will be at least nineteen (19) years of age during the calendar year in which the Draft is held, and (B) with respect to a player who is not an international player (defined below), at least one (1) NBA Season has elapsed since the player’s graduation from high school (or, if the player did not graduate from high school, since the graduation of the class with which the player would have graduated had he graduated from high school)

Why couldn’t Penny turn over Team Penny to Keelon?

Why couldn’t Penny turn over Team Penny to Keelon?

Because he's closer to Todd Day?

Or he's closer to his cousin?
