Regardless of Brown’s hire, Tiger fans should brace for an onslaught of negative press as we ascend toward relevancy.

I am perfectly prepared for that and would gladly take the criticism. 04-cheers

Who cares? The only time people didn't think Memphis was dirty was when Tubby was here.

I am a little jaded, but I have thought for a long time that every top 100 program is dirty to a certain extent. This FBI stuff is not helping my skepticism.

I do not care a whit about the views of the national sports media (I find a few members contemptible, in fact). However, I am concerned that the Administration will wilt. Rank and file fans should make the Administration understand that caving on staff options that would be taken absent media bashing will cause more pain than by doing the right thing.

Naw....It's not negative press. It's jelly press.

Press that predicts our downfall because they are flat-out jealous.

If you are getting top 100 players then you are definitely playing the recruiting game, no two ways about it. Some are simply better than others at it... It will be interesting to see how the FBI investigation changes this going forward.

Former NBA player George Lynch the favorite to be strength & conditioning coach. Had the same job for Larry Brown at SMU.

DJ going to Kentucky even knowing Penny will be the coach.

Wiseman will re-classify to '18 and will come to Memphis, but probably won't announce until late summer because he wants to play EYBL this summer.

Not trying to convince anyone, just passing on what I have heard.

Great info Tigx. Thanks!

RE: Penny's Staff - Larry Brown, Mike Miller and Jordan Mincy . . .
Bumped to show this thread started on March 12th. So more than a month of this Bowen delay on Penny hiring his own staff.

Bowen has provided Penny alternatives, but Penny doesn't want those guys. Then the stupid consultant non-solution.

IMO, one problem is Bowen is not really Penny's boss, but Bowen doesn't realize this. Bowen had nothing to do with Penny's hiring, and he cannot fire Penny, so IMO he is not his boss. Rudd is trying to play Switzerland, and find an acceptable middle ground, but he needs to make a decision either way. Ridiculous that this has gone on for so long.

If we were dirty then that would have been the worst effort at being dirty!

I don't think top 100 programs, but anyone recruiting several top 100 players, yes. It doesn't look like Beilein or Bennett are, at least according to coaches when offered anonymity. You aren't cheating/paying to get a 3* player. Maybe academic fraud to keep him eligible.

#AWESOMESAUCE ! Keep it coming ... keen insight, with the “word on the street”

There's no reason Larry Brown can't be just an x and o's guy and not having anything to do with recruiting or other official functions. That should be safe enough shouldn't it? If he is an assistant under Penny looks like he would perform what Penny wants of him. Of course it's possible LB would not except such a limited function. I can't believe he would do something to jeopardize the program behind Penny's back if it should get that far. He would have nothing to gain and his career would surely be over. This sky is the limit if they can pull this off. GO TIGERS!

That is your prerogative just like it is the prerogative of the school to be disgusted that people have this perception, and that the school wants to go out of its way to do things the right way.

There are posters here that have no pride in the school's reputation, don't care, and just want to win at all costs. I get it.
