UTA over Oklahoma at Norman and UTA over BYU at Provo get the edge on App over Davidson. Still a good win for the Neers.

UTA"s win over OU was an exhibition game. It didn't count.

AState and Arkansas last played in the Men's NIT in 1987. You might be thinking of when the Women's NIT matched us up in Jonesboro in 2005.

Listen to 3/12 Ron Hunter interview on our local sports radio. Wow...he went off on how MTSU got screwed lol. He seemed mad how power conference teams won't schedule good mid-majors like MTSU and Georgia State but the lack of P5 OOC game is used against us by the selection committee. The man has a point. Can't schedule strong teams if they don't take your phone calls.

Also, he addresses why he isnt chasing money. I know that topic came up in another thread

As annoying as he can be on the sideline Ron has some smart ideas on the state of the game. I feel like the lack of mid majors makes this tournament kinda boring. No real matchups I get super excited for. Think gsu has a punchers chance though might be a low 50s game both teams are very solid on defense

A repeat of a another coaches tirade last year. I do agree with the thought that you refuse to play G5 teams except very occasionally at home and then you argue at the end of the year that they don't play anyone. They control both sides of the argument. The NCAA needs to do something similar to the RPI like baseball which weights road wins much more heavily than home wins. That would get some of those guys on the road. The other thing that limited (intentionally) the ability to schedule P5 teams in the conference vs conference series that the P5 teams have instituted. That takes away games that are available to be scheduled.

We have no stroke in football fighting the P5's, but I wonder if we could develop our own G5 post season basketball tournament with a broadcast group and pull all the G5 "cinderella's" out of the NCAA completely.

As a team that normally shoots pretty good from the 3 point line, the experimental rules do not work in the Cajuns favor. If Gant is not over his bronchitis, and Stove is not ready, it could be a tough row to hoe.

Hoping for the best but I am not overly optimistic.

Yep. GS made the decision b4 the season— NCAA NIT or nothing. I agree with that position

NIT seeding is irrelevant after the 1 seeds. There’s not a science to them. MTSU was supposedly one of the biggest NCAA snubs this year and they only got a 3 seed

Didn’t know that. I thought the NIT tried to legitimately seed teams. Oh well I hope the Cajuns take down LSU

They sort of do, highest seed hosts each round, but they try to regionalize it as much as possible. Cajuns and LSU both got put in the bracket with all the West teams, so to avoid potential situations where ULL might have to travel cross country 2 or 3 times, they had to play as local an opponent as possible round 1, which means opposite LSU, no matter the seeding.

WNIT grants automatic bids to the best team in a conference to not make the NCAA, so since you guys finished 2nd in the league, you were guaranteed a WNIT spot as long as Little Rock won the tourney.

I just copied and pasted Tweets. It was easier than writing it out.

Yeah, I figured that. I always laugh at University Twitter accounts when they "find out" they made the WNIT, a Tournament they've known about for a few days. AState used to be really bad about it, which was especially annoying because we were most certainly not happy to be there.

Geez, I'm getting old....I listened to that '87 game on the radio when I was driving to Shreveport from Monroe. I was pulling for ASU and over the air it sounded like a great game. It just doesn't feel like it was that long ago.

I'm not old enough to have any memory of it, but we led by like 20 and lost in Overtime.

The odd story is, if we had won that game, there's a fair chance that Nolan Richardson is out of a job because of it, and he ended up taking them to 3 Final Fours and a National championship during his run.
