Auburn
NU (8-3) opens a 3-game series tonight visiting #17 Auburn (13-0).

RHP Brian Christian (1-2, 7.82) will be on the bump for NU tonight.

RHP Tyler Brown (1-0, 5.02) starts Saturday.
LHP Sean Mellen (3-0, 1.42) starts Sunday.

All 3 games will be SEC Network Plus.

If we could get one win this weekend it would be huge.

Looking forward to watching his series.

RE: Auburn
NU got no-hit by Auburn’s Casey Mize, a top 300 prospect in this years draft, 6-0 in the series opener.

He struck out 13 and the only NU runner to reach base was on an error.

Brian Christian took the loss (1-3, 4.1 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).

RHP Brian Rodríguez pitched well in relief (2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 K).

RHP Tyler Brown starts for NU Saturday at 2pm.

Lowlights...

RE: Auburn
NU played a doubleheader against Auburn today due to bad weather forecast for Sunday.

In Game 3 of the DH, behind the dominance of LHP Sean Mellen, NU hands No. 17 Auburn its first loss of the 2018 season by beating the Tigers 2-1.

Mellen was just 4 outs from a no-hitter. A 2-out RBI double down the left field line that was catchable IMO by Cam Walsh ended the no-hit bid.

Mellen worked through 8 innings finishing with eight strikeouts. Andrew Misiaszek relieved Mellen in the 9th and got the save.

Game 3 highlights are weak because they just show Auburn and not how we scored or Mellen’s domination.

====

In the first game of the twin bill, NU gave up 6 homers in a 14-8 loss.

Tyler Brown gave up 6 early runs on 3 homers, but settled down to pitch two solid innings.

NU made a little rally in the 9th trailing 14-1, with a 7 run 9th. NU beat up Mike Galvine's nephew Auburn freshman Peyton Glavine (his dad Tom was also there).

NU comes back home but their home opener this week against Hartford has been cancelled.

Game 2 highlights...

RE: Auburn
I know it's stupidly early, but kind of cool seeing NU's RPI at #4 in the country right now! We won our games vs. bad to decent teams, and picked off some wins vs. good SEC teams! Nice job so far. Looking forward to playing Texas Tech in a couple weeks.

Sean Mellen was named CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week.

This is how close he came to taking a no-hitter into the 9th inning...
