Don't be an ass, you're better than that!

I actually think - come 2025 - Texas will get the he same deal with the ACC ND has now.

I agree with this.

In fact ... it is the ONLY way this will happen.

Texas going "independent" would trump A & M's move to the SEC. Which is a big deal for the power brokers in Austin. They can't look like they are following what College Station did. But doing what Notre Dame did? Well ... that's rarified air. Placing their other sports in the ACC would be a win. Associating their academics with some of the academic powers in the ACC would be a win. East coast exposure along with the state of Texas would be a win for both Texas and the ACC.

And since the ACC has talked to Texas before ... I think keeping this door open -- even if a gigantic long shot -- will be something the league does. Getting access to the markets in Texas with the flagship school no less is an intoxicating idea.

And let's be honest ..... Notre Dame ain't joining before 2036. I doubt they'll ever join. But never is a long time. So I won't say that.

Football independence with other sports in the ACC is also probably the neatest way to handle the question of what to do with the Longhorn network, as ESPN will own both the Longhorn and ACCN and content-sharing should be relatively easy as a result, with the Texas football games providing the anchor.content to keep Lornghorn around (which I believe is important to Texas).

You mentioned 3 wins that Texas would receive from getting a ND type deal, placing their other sports in the ACC, associating their academics with the academic powers of the ACC and east coast exposure. Texas would also receive those benefits as full time members of the ACC and a lot more. But Texas AINT Notre Dame. Not even close.

And there"s nothing about Texas that they should get any better deal than an FSU or even a Miami, two programs who actually spent most of their existence as independents. While Texas has spent most of its existence as part of a conference. Someone needs to explain to me why the ACC would be desperate enough to give Texas such a deal. This type of deal wasnt on the table when Texas flirted with the ACC before, and the ACC is in a much more solid position today.

Texas is the last whale to be caught, and they know it. They can write their own ticket as a result. The only question is whether state politics force them to save Tech.

Disagree. Look at TV ratings for games of both teams. UT games do at least as well as ND games even though the Horns' W-L record has lagged for the last several seasons.

Texas still has a large following. The sports that would be joining the ACC would provide valuable content to the new ACC Network. The road ACC games for the Longhorns would add value to the TV contract. Maybe not as much as ND, but it would still add value.

I'd make a hard push for Tennessee or Penn State. And hard means, yes, a multi-decade under the radar effort. I dream bigger than Swofford dares to.

RE: If ND breaks down and joins the ACC
Texas going to the PAC 12 with TTU and perhaps two others may be their most plausible option. If new network money would come close to matching BIG and SEC distributions, Texas would at least consider again a PAC 12 deal that includes accommodation per the LHN.

Doubtful the ACC would give Texas a ND-type deal. The ACC wants FT ND fb. Adding a variable that would certainly prolong that is not in the interest of the ACC.

ND had some established relationships with several ACC schools before joining. There are no natural rivalries for Texas in the ACC. FSU and GT are the closest, geographically, with three states inbetween . For minor sports, that is much added travel compared to their current situation. If taking three schools with them to the PAC12, at least they would have a couple or three traditional and closer rivals heading there with them. Still, trips to the west coast would require major travel, but some contiguous dynamics would exist.

UCONN

BC and Syracuse would love the addition in Basketball and Football.

Basketball for everybody else. Plus do not forget the female Huskies Basketball team addition to the ACC.

ACC will do whatever it takes to get UT in-house. There's nobody else available who brings that type of revenue potential, and the ACC would have a geography issue to battle. Notre Dame isn't joining anytime soon, so the ACC will be choosing between getting Texas locked in now or potentially drawing from the picked-over pool of the Big 12 - AAC hybrid that's coming down the line while their competitors got first, second, and third choice by being proactive.

Texas may go elsewhere, but they have to be at the very top of the ACC's wish list.

Ooh, that's juicy. Dare to dream, indeed.

If you had to pick just one, which would it be?

Personally, I'd love to see Tennessee in the ACC. That would give VT a second true regional rival (and maybe an actual rival in football, not just one that UVA claims to be be). Though if the day ever came for Tennessee to join the ACC, Knoxville might burn to the ground.

One very real possibility would be Navy as football only. Incorporating their long standing rivalry with Notre Dame into ACC play may one factor that helps entice Notre Dame into joining since it addresses an important scheduling concern for Notre Dame.

If the ACC did add Navy for football, the ACC could conceivably add a 16th non football member such as Georgetown or Villanova.

Tennessee fits like a glove. Slam dunk all around. No contest. And quite frankly I'd tell the Irish to take a hike if I could get Penn State to pair with them. They would need to be rebuilding in Knoxville anyway because they'd need a lot more room for hardware if they competed in the ACC. And not just ACC hardware either.

Nobody's leaving the SEC or the B1G for the ACC.

It's a dream worth dreaming because it would be extraordinary IF it became reality.
